Using the web interface of GMAIL from my N800

I have found a number of posts about how to use the email client on the N800 to do POP mail with gmail.com. I don't want to do that as I have a PC client where I keep all my mail and I don't want to split the mail between my PC and the N800. When I travel I want to use the web interface to gmail to check email but not save it on the N800. Fitting that whole gmail web page on the N800 screen makes for tough viewing without the use of the magnifier. Gmail claims to have an interface for the blackberry so that only the essential items are on the screen. Is there something I can use on my N800 to basically just view my inbox and not the entire webpage presented when you start up gmail? It would sure make it easier on my eyes!

TIA.

You may want to use the mobile version
m.google.com/mail
and then click to the link googlemail.com at the bottom of the page.

Or perhaps the HTML view as opposite to the standard view might be right for you.

For my part, I prefer the standard view, it is reasonably fast and by using it I have all the features I use in the desktop version.

I agree with using the standard view. I hate the mobile site. I find it hard to use. But you should try it, you might like it.

When I go to m.google.com/mail I am invited to download something. Am I missing something here?

Have you clicked on the link googlemail.com at this page?

Oh sorry. Yes, I did try that but I got the basic HTML display rather than the standard view display. I had thought there might be something more concise that allowed me to see less "stuff" on the screen.

I have bookmarked
https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=html

which is the "plain html" version: faster but still most of the regular content. If that's too small, zoom to 150%, since there are no frequently needed UI elements on the right.

Joe.

Thanks for your help Joe and for the others who have contributed. I think I have a reasonable solution now.

I use this >> https://mail.google.com/mail/x/

@ 150% zoom set via UserContent.css

I use the IMAP interface to Gmail. It keeps everything synchronized between my phone, Evolution (Linux mail client), and the N800. As I read mail, I archive it, by putting it in a folder created by default by Google named "all mail." This works surprisingly well, as new mail is pushed to devices, but the archived mail is only downloaded if you open the "all mail" folder and open it manually.

And the inbox on the web interface works exactly the same way. Overall I think it is about the best email solution I've used, even better than Outlook.
