Recommended Screen Protector
I have bought a N810 second hand just more than a month ago. It came with a screen protector that the last owner bought, but the screen protector now has all types of scratches on it. I want to get another screen protector that is more durable. There are tons of screen protectors out there, but I don't know which ones are the most durable one against scratches of the stylus. Which ones would you recommend? Thanks.

Re: Recommended Screen Protector
I swear there was a thread on exactly this topic posted just hours ago.

Thanks Ryan. I didn't even know that there's a wiki on this. However, I am having problems loading that wiki link right now.

Re: Recommended Screen Protector
I know this thread was posted a long time ago. I have purchased a Boxwave protector, and the adhesive got worn out after half a year. Is this still be best option available?

Re: Recommended Screen Protector
The screen protector I use is the DuraSec one. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/DuraSec-High...2131744&sr=8-1)
Well actually I bought the one for the N800 even though I have an N810. It fits just the same but at the time there wasn't one for my model I've previously have many screen protectors on things in the past, and have never been happy with them, they always changed the light and picture quality or let a sneen on the screen that caused reflections to show up. BUT this one is totally different!! It's thicker that I would normally expect, but once it's on, you'll never know! It's like a gel, and really doesn't mark at all, or scratch like the plastic ones you can get. There is no reflection and no change to the screen at all! It's amazing!! I've had it one for a year and a half and it's still going good, just like the day I put it on!! It's well worth paying a little extra and getting one like this! They really do last longer and the quality is just so much better! |
Re: Recommended Screen Protector
The dealextreme one I bought six months ago is still as good as the first day:

Re: Recommended Screen Protector
The protector I bought from DealExtreme was wider than my N800 screen, so I had to lift the faceplate to fit it, but it wasn't as tall as my screen, so it left some screen exposed on the top and the bottom. Is there one that fits better?

Re: Recommended Screen Protector
Mine is the correct height. The problem with dx is that you can get a different item even with the same sku.

I found it very hard to apply accurately, but I seem to have got it on "good enough". Regards, Roger |
Re: Recommended Screen Protector
I just received the boxwave protector in the mail a half hour ago...
It now resides in the trash can... Waste of $15. It is nearly impossible to get it to fit correctly with no bubbles around th edges! You MUST do it right the first time because if you attempt to pull it back up and reattach it, the edges bend in and cause HUGE bubbles to form!! Thumbs down! |
Re: Recommended Screen Protector
I've used the zagg.com ones. They're more expensive, but they last a really long time. Of course, that may be overkill with a new device due out in ~6 mos. and others here have had concerns w/their customer service (which I haven't had to deal with).

Re: Recommended Screen Protector
I have a three pack of Boxwave protectors, and I'm still on first one. If you get it on with just a few bubbles, leave it on. They'll come out. Use the cardboard that came with it to smoothe it on.
If you take it off, you can rinse it with water to refresh the adhesive. Shake dry, and apply. You can even wash it with mild detergent when it's off. They're pretty bullet-proof, as long as you don't crimp them. |

long as there's nothing physically there. they will not bubble. smooth surface and dont even notice they're there. |
Re: Recommended Screen Protector
I almost gave up on boxwave too. For one thing, it's ever so slightly too wide. Another is that applying it requires a clean room. Each time I had to reposition it trapped more and more dust underneath. The underside got scratched when prying it up with a razor knife, the only thing that would fit into the gap. When using tape to remove dust as recommended at their website some of the adhesive stuck to the screen. As it stands now, there are permanent air pockets around the perimeter as a result of it getting trapped under the bezel, a speck of dust trapped along the top, and no good way of removing it.

Re: Recommended Screen Protector
I recommend the Zagg ones, though if you're paranoid about dust, you might want to think twice as there's always going to be dusy between the screen and the shield, and once it's on, it's hard to put back on again. Though being able to use a regular pencil as a stylus is nice.

Re: Recommended Screen Protector
Removing the boxwave now will be a pretty delicate operation. I'd left the nokia-applied protector in place while waiting for the boxwave and was content with it--except for the two stickers blocking the view.
