Power saving mode?
Hey Folks,
Just got my n810 tablet yesterday, flashed to the latest OS. Installed all my softwares. This thing is pretty slick! However, my battery was almost dead this morning after leaving it last night fully charged. I've been searching around and see others have some battery drain issues as well. I keep seeing reference to "power saving mode", but I can't figure how how/where to set this? When your not using your tablet, do you just walk away from it, or is there a way to tell it to 'sleep', so you can save your battery? How do you set idle times etc? It seems like there should be some sort of a power manager in the control panel, but I can't find any such thing. Thanks! |
Re: Power saving mode?
Haven't heard of a power saving mode but there's lots of little things you can do. if you leave your tablet unplugged at night you can switch to offline mode which turns off all radios in the device. Maybe you have some apps that autoupdate frequently and are going online to fetch information.

Re: Power saving mode?
You can install liqbase and set cpu mode through that.
Also, my n800 has great battery life. But I too had the weird drain-over-night-but-not-during-the-day phenomenon. Not sure what it is, or if it's still around. I leave mine on the charger all night. Although my environmental conscience doesn't really like that solution. |
Re: Power saving mode?
i leave my tablet OFF the charger all night and use it all the next day without charging.
The one major thing for me personally however is wifi, i have it set to never connect automatically. if i leave wifi on overnight it will be dead. during actual use, the best thing you can do to extend life is to lower the screen brightness as far as you are comfortable. |
Re: Power saving mode?
Yep, it sounds to me like you've got something running that's draining the battery power. the internet tablets use pretty much zero energy when truly on standby. i often even leave the browser running overnight and wake up to find the battery power right where i left it. when i remember, i switch to offline mode. BUT if i leave a game running overnight--hexahop is a prime example of this--the battery will drain completely and i'll find the tablet shut down in the morning. i believe hexahop's animated water keeps the processor humming along and trickles the battery power away.

Re: Power saving mode?
Thanks for the suggestions, I've tweaked my settings now so that:
*email doesn't check every 5 minutes (I had thought since the email program was *closed, it wasn't still running) *weather updates every 8 hours instead of 15min *set WLAN search interval to never I'll see if that makes any difference at all. How do you set to offline mode? Is that just by disconnecting your wifi connection? Now to figure out what the different corner LED states mean. This thing is great though! So glad I waited this long to finally get a pocket pc. |

Re: Power saving mode?
cyber, i hate those LEDs, I woke up on the first night I had my n810 and due to the mysterious glow emanating from the bedside thought the aliens were coming to take me away.
I disabled them all before finding out what they did. the tweaks you have done seem reasonable power saving things. I normally don't bother with specific offline mode unless I am actually getting on a plane, I just disconnect wifi and lock for the night. why is it a good thing you waited so long? I kicked myself when I realised how useful they were that I hadn't jumped immediately (it wasnt until the n810 that I got one because before that I saw them as pdas..) |

Re: Power saving mode?
If you do a quick press of the power button or ctrl + shift + p you wil pull up the Device Mode menu which will allow you to choose Lock the touch screen and keys, Offline mode, Lock device, Soft poweroff (which turns off all radios and turns off and locks the touch screen and keys) and Switch off!.
Some other useful hot keys are Ctrl + shift + h to switch from the program you are running to the home screen and back to the program; Ctrl + x/c/v to cut/copy/paste; Ctrl + shift + m is the menu key. If you want to find or remap more of these functions go to Control panel > Bluetooth keyboard > Shortcuts. |
