Re: tangoGPS

it is possible to have navigation/routing with that? or just mapping?

bongo 2008-12-04 20:52

Re: tangoGPS

It works. For me it seems to run faster than maemo mapper.
Nice and simple app.

But:
- There are still some gui improvements needed
- We need a better .deb file with a .desktop file, installable from app manager

Re: tangoGPS

Can't install either from downloading from garage or the 'dpkg -i tangogps_0.9.3-1_armel.deb' in root mode method.

Something change?

It would be nice if you actually uploaded the real source of the tangoGPS that you ported, not the ORIGINAL source.

That said, I've uploaded a patch that creates a proper debian package, installable from application manager, compilant with policy, desktop file installed to the correct place and other goodies.

Nice ....
Now it becomes an alternative to maemo-mapper for some usage scenarios.

seems it need a gps fix before it can start downloading map data...

bongo 2008-12-07 12:33

Re: tangoGPS

no, downloading maps works without gps but I've have an other problem with downloading maps. Some of the tiles are missing and tango won't download them.

Re: tangoGPS

Sorry, I've been dealing with a sick 2 year old.

The error I got was:
Unable to install tangogps.
Incompatible application package.

Since there is a new file I will try again.

Re: tangoGPS

Hi.

I made a litte test a few hours ago and found an other bug. When I have a gps lock and tango is set to autocenter the map tiles somehow become distorted. This happens when I move and tango has to move the map. If you can't reproduce this I can make a screenshot.

does tangogps support finnish topo maps by nokia ?

Re: tangoGPS

I'm also getting the "Unable to install tangogps. Incompatible application package."

Is the .diff posted made to fix this? Can you post instructions on how to apply the patch to make a proper .deb?

Thanks!

bongo 2008-12-10 09:48

Re: tangoGPS

you have to install from command line with 'dpkg -i tangogps_0.9.3-1_armel.deb'

The maintainer has to apply the patch to the modified sources of tangogps so he can provide a new deb file. This one will be installable from app manager. So you have to wait for a new version or just use a terminal.

Root shell enabled

BusyBox v1.6.1 (2008-05-22 10:32:35 EEST) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

/home/user # dpkg -i tangogps_0.9.3-1_armel.deb
dpkg: error processing tangogps_0.9.3-1_armel.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
tangogps_0.9.3-1_armel.deb
/home/user #

Ok,I acknowledge I'm a linux n00b but did I just type this all wrong?

p.s. I'm whacked out on cold meds so this is a trip...(achoo!)

Re: tangoGPS

Are you sure that your deb file is correct? Please download the file a second time and try it again.

skatebiker 2008-12-11 09:51

Re: tangoGPS

For me the same:
"Unable to install tangogps. Incompatible application package."

Probably has the developer added the wrong packages / repositories to the .deb file.

UPDATE:
Using dpkg -i tangogps_0.9.3-1_armel.deb from the shell did work but it does not recognize the GPS.

Can it use Maemo mapper maps ?

Sounds like an error from the app manager. You can't install tangogps from app manager!! (!!!)

Hi all,
Wonder if you could advice: since the dpkg command doesn't work (the same error as all the other seem to be getting), I've downloaded this file too but what do I do with it? Is it installable one? It says it fixes the bug but should I trig it in some way?
Anyway, can you tell me just how this app can be installed?
