@wert613: in general, that what makes the world go 'round ;D
But seriously (and more specifically), the pictures that've been discussed from kaskus forum, those were pictures from a SELLER looking to hawk their goods... they want it to look as pristine and untouched as possible.

You won't see it peeled off unless you can track the buyer :D

@ysss: So it IS an entirely profit related reason!

Luck to you.

EDIT: And for the record, I love this community because it's made up of mainly witty intelligent NIT users, woo.

I just don't get the complaints about the device's appearance. From what I can see I think it looks damn sharp. Good job, Nokia design team.

IMO "fugly" is not an appropriate tag, either...

It's not BAD appearance wise, though I see a resemblance to the Samsung Instinct and it's ilk.

Some, sure. It's not Nokia's usual style though.

i think it looks great, i think it suffers for the lack of a fourth numeric row, but that's not an aesthetic problem.

Well, talking about Nokia style, should we expect this to be announced in the upcoming Nokia World event? And what about the announced Nokia netbook?

I'm no longer in the loop, and if I was, I'd have to be quiet... or cagey. :D

It's gotta be SO damn hard to keep quiet when it's something you're personally excited about... and even moreso when you see some members being so down in the dumps about some things.

I have to deal with the same sort of issues working in the game industry.

*sigh* NDAs... how I hate you so.

mostly those are of the mr blurrycam style. that is, you can tell there is something on the photo, but no way can you tell where the exact buttons and ports are found...

Who is allila09?
I've gotten in touch with the seller and put my bid in. Waiting for response from any of the previous buyers (there were 3 units)

heh, he's been told to can the hints at least ones while working for nokia. it would not surprise me if he gets a "interesting" reminder letter from their resident lawyer if he's not careful...

It got REALLY difficult to toe the line after I was released, but Peter@MaemoMarketing revived my better side... lol. It's hard sometimes not to be petty but IMO it's worth the struggle in the long run.

But there's no way I'd go beyond the vague hints I used to drop just to keep interest going. I wasn't happy when the N800 was leaked as I was working on getting it to CES, and I imagine there are people in Nokia now who aren't too thrilled with certain events lately...

has anyone tried taking the MAC address and putting it into the maemo updates website which needs a mac address for validation to see if they can access a repository or two?

if Nokia were determined to keep it secret, they might get a stooge to buy these units and to determine who the seller is and how they got hold of them - the route to market might not have been wholly legitimate.

Do keep in mind that even this seller isn't scamming, and you somehow do get a legitimate, working RX-51 prototype device from him/her, the device may cause you trouble down the line. The prototypes of previous tablets have rejected publicly released firmware images. SSUs will probably install fine, but should you ever need to reflash, doing so may be difficult or impossible.

AFAIK the IMEI code of the device was visible. I am pretty sure Nokia keeps quite good track of their protos with the IMEI codes. Shouldn't be too hard to track this person down...

I still want to have all the prototypes as well as the 770 and N800 anyways. What can I say? I'm a fan. :)

Re: What we do realistically see in the RX-51

@sjgadsby: thanks, you're right.

Actually i just asked a friend of mine who works at nokia (no, nothing that exciting.. she's in accounting) looking for leads for more RX-51 *G* she told me she knew a guy who lost a prototype when his car got stolen, and the guy got sacked all the same. So I don't think this leak was from a (sane) nokia employee.

@wert613: we just need one more if you'd be curly =P

I go camping for a couple of weeks (my N800 was great on the road, BTW), and I come back to find pretty pictures all over the forums...

So pretty....

1 Attachment(s)
Someone had mentioned earlier in this thread they did not see a stylus in the box. It looks like it is built into the phone.

lma 2009-08-10 07:23

Re: What we do realistically see in the RX-51

If that's really a stylus, that's a very strange place to put it. How are you supposed to take it in or out when the device is standing on the stand? But don't get me wrong, a stylus slot in the least convenient place is infinitely better than none at all.

Hmmm one prototype, but there is 3 for sell, and pictures show only one (fully boxed) RX-51... perharps buyers #2 and #3 will get scammed while buyer #1 might not.

Did he jump out of the building after they found out? If not, how does Nokia think they can rival Apple?;)

OK, got an update:

Quote:

My colleague played with it a few months ago whilst meeting Nokia and said it had a capacitive touch screen, 5MP camera, etc.

I'd be surprised if he got it wrong he's very techie. But he might have.

If it is resistive, it's even worse than i thought
Since the RX-51 seems to have a stylus, that has to confirm resistive right? Or can a stylus still work on a capacitive screen? If it can, maybe there's still hope for capacitive - perhaps the source code is intentionally designed to throw the competition off the scent... :)

He might have been tricked by two-touch in the interface.

Well, | is not available either on an N810 keyboard. You get it by using the Char palette, so same for "Esc" here I'd say.

Re: What we do realistically see in the RX-51

No, Esc used to be a hardware key on the 770, N800, N810. The one with the curled arrow is the Esc key.

some first hand info from mobile-review.com forum

"Apart from 32GB info, another whould be a 3D task switcher/manager (he compared it with live preview in Windows 7) and that it runs incredibly smooth compared to anything on market at moment (3D acceleration of UI, and that was something we already knew)! For moment that`s all! He wasnt sure anyway about stylus (can`t remember about it) and the QWERTY keypad is much better designed than the one in N97 (wich is a good thing)!"
