Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player
I use the lastest version of panucci (0.9). there are small cuts each time I lock the N900 or when I switch to an other application.

Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player
I am trying to find options or settings to do some things I thought were available in Pannucci.
I use gPodder to get my podcasts. How do I find and listen to all podcasts: by podcast title or by date? ....I currently create an "allpods.m3u" via a script. Is there a better way? How do I delete podcasts (from disk and from gPodder) after listening to them? How do I jump to "newshour" podcasts without fast-forwarding through about half of my podcasts, marking them as "read"? Can I listen to podcasts at 2x speed? Regarding gPodder: opening gPodder is quite "messy". I appreciate that gPodder is a bit "heavy" but I'm thinking that if you threw up a small bitmap that didn't dissapear/reappear/disappear/reappear the loading might appear more seamless. Thanks, These are great programs! |

There's nothing an app developer can do except make application startup faster, so that the fake window is still visible when the main window is first shown. My time is limited, so right now, I'm spending more time on improving the user experience and fixing bugs and after that, I might have a look at optimizing startup time (but anyone is welcome to jump in and submit patches - gPodder is an open source project!). |
Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player
Thanks.
I'm listening over Bluetooth 99% of the time. There seems to be a bug with the stack, as every time a call or email notification comes in, and playback stops, it never resumes. {at least not for 15 minutes - I've waited this long} So I need to kill Media Player (or Panucci) - re-open it - and find my place. Panucci really wins here! I've been deleting podcasts through gPodder, but this is "sub-optimal" Some podcasts {like TWIT} are 90-120 minutes, "60-Second Science" episodes go by MUCH more often :-) It would be nice if I didn't need to flip back and forth between the two apps. If Panucci could delete files {in a way that "worked" with gPodder} I'd be set!!! :-) Thanks for the software - Panucci and gPodder are the main apps (along with gnumeric and Mail for Exchange) that make me happy with my N900. |

I fixed the bug for me by buing a new car stereo. It works fine using panucci and calls (the most of the time) - but sometimes my dialog partner is still unable to hear me. It's very annoing because I must hang up the call, turn off my radio and turn it on again to get a new bluetooth connection. I have resigned because I guess I can't do more than reporting my own observations. |

I have the same problem of no time count, plus none of the fwd/rev buttons don't work - on ogg files only. I have ogg-support 0.9 and panucci 0.3-7 installed. I tried reinstalling both to no avail. If I run panucci from the command line, load another ogg file and try to fast fwd/rev I get the following. Any ideas? Code:
~ $ panucci |
Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player
I'm running version 0.9 and it doesn't automatically play the next track in the playlist.

If somebody wants to take over development of Panucci, please drop me a line or join #gpodder on Freenode :) The 0.9 branch isn't stable, so even if you want to use Panucci, please use 0.3.x. Thanks! |

I hope somebody will integrate the support for play/pause and to jump several seconds per press via Bluetooth again to Panucci 0.9 in the future. Using the build in Media Player is a pain. If I press and hold the Button at my car stereo to rewind several seconds, mostly it rewinds about a minute and not only some seconds. Sometimes it is still rewinding if I have already released the Button. And if I press it to short the podcast is back at the beginning and I don't know how far I must move this small bar at the N900 touchscreen to get back to the point it has stopped. AWFUL! Panucci has clearly the better solution to rewind in fixed steps if you simply haven't understand the last sentence. |

Does anyone know how hard it would be to make the 'auto-play on headset' function work with ordinary headphones and not just headsets? I'm no developer but I'd love to implement this on my version if it was just a case of replacing some code in a system file if some kind soul could point me in the the right direction. |
Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player
Thinking out loud: What if someone were to come up with a car-friendly UI that remote controls the built-in media player?
|
Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player
Quote:
It should be a background daemon without UI that intercept the "rewind" and "forward" signal and send's commands to the Media Player to rewind or forward only 10 seconds. Hmm... The question is, is it easier to migrate the bluetooth code from panucci 0.3.17 to the current version or to manipulate the built-in player using a small daemon in the background? Okay, if this is possible only a Menu at gPodder would be missing to reopen the last played track. Or has anybody else still a good reason to use Panucci? Anything the built-in media player is unable to do? |

I thought the remaining reason why people used Panucci were the bigger UI elements compared to the built-in Media Player. Talk about not knowing your user base ;) |

I found your Bluetooth code at the old version and tried to integrate the code to the new version. But I'm a .NET Programmer and I have only rudimentary python knowledge. I know PyQt and the Signal and Slots concept from Qt4. But I guess the GTK stuff was to different or I have overseen the salient point. But I must say I gave up after a half day without any kind of success and thought I should better wait for the professional Panucci artist. ;) Quote:
I guess I should give it a new try. Before Christmas I'm very busy. (and I still need some gifts) But as soon as I find some spare time I will look again into your code and will ask where my problems lie. Quote:
Thanks for your hard work so far. |

Still not fixed, so won't be fixed. https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6640 I wonder why other people don't seem to have problems with their (video-)podcasts... Maybe you can point me and Helmuth into the right direction to get bluetooth headset support back. |

I guess I have managed to integrate the Bluetooth stuff from panucci 0.3.17 into the newest release (panucci 0.9-alpha1) I know now my mistake from early September. It was to silly. So please, don't ask! :o It's working here with a small headset. I'll test it tomorrow again with my car stereo but I'm very confident so far. I'm not sure if Thomas would agree how I have tinkered the code into his blessed Application. (I'm very unsure with all this GTK and Python stuff - so please forgive me if it's to ugly done - don't forget, I normally use .NET at Windows machines) How to install?
Thats it. If it isn't anymore working try to start panucci from the command line and watch out for errors. Please uninstall panucci and reinstall it from extras or extra-devel if you want to revert the modifications. If you don't know how to follow the install steps above I'm sorry. I don't want to break your device. And I'm afraid that I'm probably unable to help if something gone wrong and your knowledge is to weak. If you're able to follow the upper instructions without problems the whole thing should be very sure. :) So please be patient and let test this modification first some skilled and brave people. If everything is working without additional problems and Bugs I will post more detailed instructions. But I want to wait for some positive feedback first. :) Edit: Oh, and I still need a good (perfect!) christmas gift for my girlfriend. Perhaps someone could help now me with my problem. :D |
Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player

so far it seems to work for Panucci but I have the problem that the internal player also reacts on the dbus messages. The result is that both players are started or stopped and only the internal player is audible. (btw happens also when the internal player is closed and only the media home applet is there). Not sure if there is anything we can do about this - can dbus messages be "consumed" like events in an UI? Another problem I had this morning is that Panucci often is not able to resume m4a-files. After pressing the play-button it freezes and hildon tells me that the application is no longer reacting... but that is another story. Anyway, thanks for your efforts so far. :) And a hint for your girlfriends gift: Ask her what she wants for Christmas. So your gift can't be wrong and she still has the anticipation. (komisches Wort für Vorfreude, aber angeblich heißt das so :) ) |

But if this is possible, how should we ensure that Panucci is the first application that is reading and consuming this signal? I would consider to remove this ******* **** **** (lovely) Media Player Widget from the Desktop and test it again. (I guess I need a Smiley with a halo! :D) Quote:
Perhaps simply don't resume m4a files could be a solution? I guess wo could modify Panucci again. If Panucci should resume the m4a playback, it is simply beginning again at the start of the file and after a second it is seeking back to the last position. Hmm... is something like this imaginable for you? But I can already hear now the guys complaining about the sluggish beginning while resuming a m4a file. Hmm... I don't know. And I have to look into how this could work. I'm still a noob at this kind of stuff. Quote:

In devel-extras is a media player called NecroPlayer which is using Phonon (I guess it uses GStreamer as a backend) and when I open a m4a file with this player I only get audio and no video. This seems the way for me to go as I only have audio-podcasts where the video part is nice to have but not necessary. So I think I should pimp my GStreamer skills and find out how to get this behaviour in Panucci. (Thomas, any idea maybe?) |

Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player
I would be interested in trying. I have next to no coding experience, other than a small bit at school. I little bit of bash scripting is most of what I know. What language is it coded in?
edit: the reason I ask is because at garage.maemo the newest version is 0.4 which is old, so things may have changed. https://garage.maemo.org/projects/panucci/ ... found this: http://repo.or.cz/w/panucci.git ... I guess I need to brush up on some git. |
Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player
After reading through a decent portion of the code... truthfully I think this is beyond me, and moreover beyond the time I have to spend learning at this point in time. I would love to help out with this, as it is one of my favourite programs on maemo, but I dont think I would be able to assist in a decent timeframe.

I don't own a n900 but i just tried panucci git on my stationary and it does not switch to the next file which seems to be a bug. If noone else fixes It i'll do it.

Re: Panucci Podcast and Audiobook Player
Ok, thp told me to set up my own git repo and continue development there so i did.
https://github.com/xerxes2/panucci This is not a fork of Panucci just evolution. :) As I don't own a n900 thp will continue to release packages for it. Last commit before I started was seven months and three days ago so I guess most people think that the project is dead but now it's alive again. My plan is to fix what's already exists for 1.0 and possibly add some minor improvements. So if you have patches just give them to me and I'll commit them, if they're good. |
