I haven't found a project that is working on Abiword. Is anyone working on it? If so, what is the status? If not, perhaps I will.

Yeah, but that's closed source and entirely at the mercy of Softmaker; so there's nothing to be gained by raising it here.

It should be taken up with them (which I believe it has, and the answer was an unequivocal "no" :-/)
