Re: WebKit engine for default browser
It would not make a difference in either pill mode.
P.S Red pill mode isn't recommended, and there's no point in mentioning it here as webkit-eal installs fine in Blue pill mode... |

now redpillmode NOT required. (however I don't know why people are so afraid of it, as for me its normal to have full control over installed packages, on desktop linuxes there's no such modes of course) |
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
No "open link in new window" option (via tap and hold)?

Re: WebKit engine for default browser
Ah ... it doesn't restart due to things running using it (and some home sadly made scripts).
For the user-agent, yep this is the more important things for me, as when i use my phone isp data access, their proxy block any unknow user agent (mean that is not a phone). And for sqlite opendatabase api of html 5, i ve read it sorry ... i'll read previous post more carrefully |
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
It works! I don't like the engine chooser. I click on it with my thumb and it selects MicroB while I just want to open the roll down to select webkit. Some kind of confirm button, or simply 2 buttons where one pushes either (and bigger, finger friendly) would be welcome. It also is not WebKit chooser because you can also pick Gecko as option. So the choices are for MicroB browser the Gecko rendering engine, or the WebKit rendering engine.

A couple of things: it.caches and tries to autocomplete what you type in password fields (ouch!) and checkboxes are huge.

0.95 is perfect for scroll fading. My recommendation is to make that the default. When will we be seeing this in Extras-devel? (Hopefully with a Maemo-Display-Name and a purty icon) |
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
It's awesome!
But I can't post in phpbb 3 boards. :( And shift button stays on after the letter is typed, but it doesn't autocapitalize after . ! and ? I like the huge checkboxes, they are easier to use that way. But please fix the phpbb bug. |

Re: WebKit engine for default browser
i wonder, is it possible to control if a link from a external source will open in a new window rather then an existing one?

I saw it too but have honestly been too lazy to try it out. When I saw your original post I thought you were trying to get Speeddial working with the webkit engine. |

Re: WebKit engine for default browser
it seems one cant scroll both horizontally and vertically when using full screen finger scrolling.
if one start scrolling one way, one cant scroll the other until one release the pressure on the screen... |

Re: WebKit engine for default browser
O.K.: let's just assume I'm dumb as a stump and have missed a post here covering what's been bothering me and go on from there...
I have a N800 and figured I'd try installing Webkit. The speed is truly impressive and I'l be happy to use it 95% of the time. HOWEVER, I need to download files from time to time, which means I'll need to be able to switch back and forth to microb. I can't figure out how to do it... Also I can't figure how to open a new window from a link on a page and can't seem to find the webkit version of "tap-and-hold." Would someone help me to understand how to do these if possible? Thanks! |

there's small utility installed to Settings group to switch between webkit/microb (I usually close all windows before using it but maybe it will work for new windows without closing other) and please don't think so bad about yourself:) |
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
Can you set the hildon input method mode for passwords to HILDON_GTK_INPUT_MODE_FULL? If I am correct, the full range of letters will be available but the text prediction should be disabled for password fields & it shouldn't add your password to the dictionary...

And normally I don't think badly of myself, but I'd just finished reading the old thread about Opera and microb in sheer desperation, and you'd be amazed how many posts were asking how to toggle between the two, followed by "read the steps that were posted 12 times already, buddy." I was sure I'd missed a similar set of directions and was about to receive a drubbing to match. :) |
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
My turn to try and sum up a few days' worth of usage...
* this thing is do darn *faster* that it's painful to even think of switching back... * some types of pages also *display* better... in particular iphone-oriented mobile versions of netvibes, gmail... * I didn't quite believe in kinetic scrolling until now, but this is fun :-) * many thanks to pronvit for bringing this to us ! However, for daily use, these big improvements are gradually offset by the loss of small comforts I've grown used to in the standard micro-B (in most browsers, actually) : * fixed size print on some sites is too small to read, and does not respond to zoom * Wifi is not restarted automatically if it has disconnected * having to re-enter logins and passwords for all sites is a drag (maybe it's possible to convert Mozilla-style credentials to Webkit format ?) * various small hassles, like focus going to an edit box in Gmail standard view (keyboard popping up all the time), no Flash, no file download, etc. I'm sure these could all be fixed, but if a one-man effort can get this far this fast, I'm surprised Nokia didn't do it first... hats off pronvit ! |
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
Damn, this is great.
Just installed the latest. Thank you so, so much for Webkit. It flies. I love the scrolling and the smoothness. I really hope your development keeps going at this pace, this is astounding. Thank you, again, Webkit is awesome. |

One small thing that really bothers me is if you stop loading a page, or click a link before a page has downloaded fully, Webkit will crash :(

Re: WebKit engine for default browser
One of the best SW for our N8xx, thanks a lot pronvit!
A few things on my wishlist: 1. Flash should be configurable. Mostly not needed anyway. 2. Animated gifs should be switched off. Mostly ads anyway. 3. User CSS would be a great additional present. I use it mainly for ad filtering. 4. Auto reconnect when connection is interrupted. I pay for time tethering to my mobile, so the connection often interrupts. Thanks for listening! |
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
5. User Agent should be configurable :)
|
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
I've tried it, uninstalled, but battery drains quickly. Is it something which can be left after uninstallation? Thanks.
|
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
6. Import micro-b auth credentials, at least once at the start :-)
|
Re: WebKit engine for default browser
note: i could not get this to work with 36-5, but after updating to 43-7 i got it working. (i haven't heard mention of anyone else having a similar problem, so i just thought i'd mention it.)

Re: WebKit engine for default browser
One major feature (that has been mentioned before) is the Zoom. AFAIK webkit has built-in zoom right? Webkit is so fast with AJAX that I would like to use it with AJAXAmp, but I need to zoom in.
Really, really nice though, way better than MicroB |
Patches
Sounds like webkit is working out pretty well. What I'm wondering, before I get it, is whether there are easy temporary patches that would fix some of the problems without needing to start microb?
ie, using wget for downloads (is this compiled?) or copying the link and pasting it in another window to open it in a new window? |
