The speeds are quite fast, and I can even stream last.fm radio via vagalume while tethered. I find this option to be the most convenient for me because I carry me phone and N810 with me just about everywhere. Depending on your cell phone carrier, go to www.phonearena.com for very detailed specs about released phones, and glean pretty accurate tech specs about up and coming new phones as well. This will tell you usually what bluetooth profiles are supported by the phone (DUN=Dial Up Networking), and if it's high speed data or not. Verizon has only a few phones that support this, and that are EVDO rev.A data capable.

Verizon limits blluetooth tethering to 480kbps. So Rev. A doesn't have any advantage.

I've been recommending this to a bunch of people so far. I haven't had a chance to review it yet, but so far I like what I see just from the data I've gotten off the web. :) It's essentially a 3g to Wireless translator.

what ever happened to the promise of 'Internet Everywhere?' That's a rhetorical question.... Some of us live in areas with primitive cell service with data prices that are unbearable (**cough** canada **cough**). I don't even own a cell phone because of this so I rely on WiFI. WiMAX is technically here but unusable for us mere mortals. So that leaves only WiFI for me. I've gotten along rather well but of course would love more roaming.
The irony for me is that in canada it is pretty easy to find an open residential AP but harder to find truly free APs, pay services aren't widespread enough. Yet in Iceland I couldn't find any open residential APs but had no problem finding truly free public APs even in small towns.

Pfft. We got it just as bad here in the US as you do. So don't feel bad. :(
