Where is Gaim for OS 2006

Friends,I am new user of Nokia 770 (just got it last week) - My question is, "Where is Gaim for OS 2006" ??? I saw gaim for OS 2005 but where is the new one? Gmail client can only show gmail contacts but i want my MSN contact list as well. Is there any ohter software that i can use?

Thanks in advance

The first stop for anyone wondering where to find software for the 770 should be the application catalog on the Maemo Wiki:

http://www.maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog2006

Gaim doesn't seem to be there, oddly enough, but a quick google lead me to this page:

http://maemo-hackers.org/wiki/MaemoGaim

There is a list of repositories one can add and then install from with ease in the 770 here:

maemo-gaim doesn't work properly

I installed it, but when setting up an account the protocol list was empty. So it was a no-go.
I used the OS 2005 versioner before upgrading my tablet and would have liked to continue using gaim.

If you add the application catalogs, and refresh the package list, you'll see a huge slew of various protocols available for gaim.

...and once you've refreshed, go to Install New Applications and install the protocols you need. I've installed AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and Jabber and all seem to work just fine.

Thanks eveyone for your help. I have found it and its working fine.
Kimmoj, you are rightm its at http://maemo-hackers.org/wiki/MaemoGaim

Hmm, it doesn't work for me.
After I add the repositories I need for gaim, and I'm asked to refresh the list, it doesn't refresh. Says it's unable. What could that be?

BanditRider 2006-07-31 16:07

If the list doesn't refresh, then there's a problem with one of your repositories. Disable them one at a time until the refresh is OK to determine the bad one then look at it real carefully. There's probably a typo in there somewhere.

Numfar 2006-07-31 18:10

I've done that. But as soon as I add one of the repositories that gaim wants, it wont refresh. The only other one there is the one you can't remove. I just copy the link location from the wiki, and add it.. After that it wont refresh.

The easier way is to look at the log (from the application menu), and scroll down until you find which one is failing.

Guys, i had installed gaim with no problems, it worked for a day and after that it has been keep crashing. I have removed it and reinstalled but problem is still the same. It starts up fine, tries to connect to MSN server and than suddenly disappears !!

Anyone having the same problem? and is there any fix for it?

For unknown reasons, I can't access ANY repositories in my list (all have worked in other situations) on our corporate wifi. I need to add the sametime protocol. How can I download just that file to my laptop for transfer to the 770? I can't find a location for the file...

You mentioned ' Sametime Protocol ', does it actually exist ? If so where is it ?

Texrat 2006-08-30 15:32

I've seen it listed. I think it's also referred to as "Meanwhile".

I need the location of a deb package download. I still can't get Applications Manager to refresh the apps list. Until I get that fixed I need to download to PC, transfer and manually install. Hope someone can provide a link... Google pulls up nothing.

LukeWorm 2006-08-30 21:22

"Sametime" is IBM's instant messaging program. Used, at least, by 300000 IBMers worldwide.

aflegg 2006-08-31 11:12

And bemoaned by about 299999 IBMers. Still, it's better than no internal IM solution.

Texrat 2006-08-31 15:01

So... no one knows where to get the protocol package?

Texrat 2006-08-31 19:29

Ok, digging around on the maemo-hackers site I found this:

http://www.maemo-hackers.org/apt/poo...aim-meanwhile/

So I was able to get the meanwhile package. However... it depends on a library that I now cannot find (even on maemo-hackers) called libmeanwhile-dev. Well, I've *found* it, but the versions I've tried all produce the "incompatible package" error.

*sigh*...

EDIT: ok, it looks like for whatever reason meanwhile is just scattered all over the maemo-hackers site. Here's the meanwhile library location:

http://www.maemo-hackers.org/apt/pool/main/m/meanwhile/

Oops, too optimisitic, too fast: those produce "incompatible package" as well.

*sigh 2*

Sooo-- has ANYbody managed to get this installed and working???

Yeah, ICT is much better. Sametime 7.5 will be ok, though.

Texrat 2006-09-06 23:08

One of the guys writing Gaim protocols emailed me the meanwhile package, but after installing it, Gaim can no longer connect to AIM and MSN accounts.

*sigh 3*
