The Ideal/Best PIM solution..
Heya,
Newbie N810 user.. and Luv it! :D Currently, what is the best PIM / online Sync solution for Maemo? I am a Palm guy for MANY years now and really got used to the 3rd part PIMS for it. One thing would be nice is online support for portability and redundancy. A nice feature on the Palm was a extreemly fast search ability and in Notes would go directly to word in search. Anyone have suggestions/ideas on this? I am currently wanting to Migrate from the Palm to this device permanently so will need to find a good PIM for Contacts.,Calendar, Tasks, Notes (prefer all in one app..) I'm working in Kuwait at the moment and portability would be nice.. |
Re: The Ideal/Best PIM solution..
You should probably look around using the first Newbie link in my signature. The question has been asked/addressed many times in the forum. Also, look into Garnet, the Palm emulator that runs on your new N810 -- it may be just what you're looking for.

Re: The Ideal/Best PIM solution..
Yes, I considered using the Palm Emulator.. but that would be a little counter productive..
Looking for the a All-in one Maemo app. Wanted to see what was recommended. Looked at old threads? Software/Code changes every hour... I read through that stale info.. |
Re: The Ideal/Best PIM solution..
Many people think there isn't a very good PIM for the NITs, but some like the GPE suite (GPE Calendar, GPE Contacts, etc.). I've liked the new mNotes, which also has mCalendar and mContacts, which I haven't tried. I expect that you're going to be disappointed with the NIT PIMs after the Palm, but maybe someone will have a better idea. I don't know that using the emulator for a PIM is counterproductive. I think there is a lot of cool stuff about the NIT that will surpass your Palm experience, but PIM may not be one of them; using the NIT, but with Palm emulation for a PIM, could give you the best of both worlds. Good luck!

Re: The Ideal/Best PIM solution..
Thanks for the update.. I will try using the Emulator since I did pay for Agendus Pro..(Very nice app)
But getting to the needed data would be a little slower than accustom to.. The N810 has already blown anything I have seen out of the water.. I love this thing...(The keyboard is useless for me.. Would rather use the on screen (could use bigger buttons also..) |

with mcalendar there is (still) only the option to sync with google calendar. gpe calendar has a bit more options but can be troublesome to set up for someone thats used to "next next next finish, reboot, sync" of windows software... |
Re: The Ideal/Best PIM solution..
I've switched from palm some years ago and found that the GPE Calendar was the only one that had all the features I needed. It's not pretty and it's slow as hell, but at the moment it has the most features and it gets the job done.
There's been some talk about a PIM platform on the fremantle and there's a wiki page that is used to gather info about the PIM-needs of the users. Check it out, it also has info on the options available now. Hopefully the PIM situation will change drastically when/after the next tablet is released. |
Re: The Ideal/Best PIM solution..
I'm using gpe, and had been a Palm guy since the PalmPilot Pro. I've installed the calendar, contacts, todo, and home screen summary apps. The calendar is functional, the contacts integration is abysmal, and the todo app works as expected.
If PIM functionality were more important to me, I wouldn't hesitate to use Garnet VM. |
Re: The Ideal/Best PIM solution..
sadly, unless nokia, or someone else, finds a way for third party contact apps to integrate into maemo, it will continue to be abysmal...
