Re: flash player for n810

Flash is built in. I advise clicking the Tablet 101 link on this form.

To enable flash, open the browser, then click the little magnifying glass in the lower right corner, click components, and make sure flash is selected.

For Canola, you have to give a log of the app manager. How are you installing it? Do you have extras-devel enabled? If you do, disable extras-devel. (Is that how you spell extras-devel?)

Re: flash player for n810

I think Canola fails because of an old firmware, if you just bought your n810, i suggest updating firmware to the latest available.

Re: flash player for n810

Wow no offense, but I could hardly understand your post, could you stop with the bad grammar and just type out the full words. So if I understand you correctly, you want to be able to play games from www.playfish.com and you need a version of adobe flash player. Well first you should flash your tablet with the latest firmware. That should set you up with the newest version of flash the tablet has. If that doesn't work then it could be that the website needs a newer version. In that case you are just out of luck until Nokia releases an update with a newer version of flash.

Playing flashgames on tablet is slow as hell anyway...

Re: flash player for n810

wtf its like every site checks the version now. so far ive tried myspace, abc, and hulu. no news since feb?

edit: and yes, ive read the wiki, i clicked the magnifying glass. it just seems that there should be some way to bypass the version checking done by all these sites trying to get you to install the latesst flash.

What does it look like to have flash enable on your nokia. I go to the components tab and all I see is shockwave flash. Help...

Re: flash player for n810

you need to click on that to enable it. if you don't have the checkmark next to it it's diabled.

Re: flash player for n810

Some stupid websites check EXACTLY what version of flash you have, and though it has become better with a recent update, there are STILL websites that force this check...

Re: flash player for n810

Well I've been having trouble with sites like hulu and colbertnation.com. The video box keeps saying adobe flash. is this because I don't have the high enough veesion for that site? and if thats the case is there an update for my tablet?

Re: flash player for n810

The version on your tablet is not the correct version despite having Flash enabled and installed on your tablet.

Especially sites like Hulu - they need Flash Player 9, you're using Flash Player 8 on your tablet and there is not an update for the Nokia internet tablets.

Downloading and attempting to install the Linux version is not right - that's for x86 processors, not the ARM processor inside of your tablet.

These players have a tendency to specify newer flash version than they actually require, unfortunately. Either way, Hulu definitely isn't going to play well even if it did play.

The tablet ship (and have shipped since forever) Flash 9, the "requirements" are more specific.

Re: flash player for n810

No, I believe that hulu requires flash player 9.0.115 As well as many other websites which use updated adobe flash, such as flash 10. The original firmware on the n810 comes with flash 9.0.0
So, I guess we'll just have to wait till adobe or nokia comes out with an update.

I don't recommend pinning your hopes on either. At this point, the best chance for an updated Flash player on N8x0 devices is probably Nokia somehow assisting one or more Mer developers in becoming Open Screen Project licensees.

As Nokia is a co-founder of the Open Screen Project, there may be a glimmer of hope there, but I'm sure there are numerous legal hurdles involved. Also, I don't know that any qualified developer(s) would be willing to sign the necessary contracts if Nokia & the OSP made the option available.

Re: flash player for n810

Thanks GA, it felt wrong when I posted it was 8.0, I just know that I can't even view a lot of the stuff I've done in Adobe Flex at all and that's with requiring 9.0.0 when deployed.

Even with a flat requirement of Flash 9.0.0 sometimes isn't enough; however a lot of sites make requirements based on video playback and there's major differences between Flash 8 and Flash 9 - different codecs.

So far, if it's straight ActionScript 3 and flat Flash 9.0.0 requirements, then the sites tend to play. Add video to the mix; and it starts to get specific above 9.0.0 due to the requirements.

And an update from Adobe is upcoming; however Nokia's pretty much abandoned this version of the OS imho.

Re: flash player for n810

Adobe is up to 10.0.22.87. Not sure what'll happen with the Open Screen Project, but we'll just cross our fingers...

arrrgh i'm gettin frustrated.

i do a lot of stuff for my band's myspace. now i can't even check to see if stuff is working right because the music player says i need the latest flash.

there has GOT to be a way around this.

i can see / understand video being a problem, but the simple music player???

come on.

my latest attempts at functionality are beginning to prove omega right...

forgive me all... the thing could start on fire and omega still wouldn't be right.

since posting this, i did a compulsory reflash (as I do periodically with all my pc's, just for freshness' sake).

2 new things I did which make me feel better about the n810:

1. FINALLY found Tear & installed (thanks Qole)
2. Found iNES, which brings back 2d memories long forgotten.

The Flash thing is a big bummer/disappointment, but overall, I still like this gizmo better than my friends' iPhone and G1 (how many fart apps do you need???).

I have hope that EVENTUALLY someone will find a solution for the flash. Maybe a way to spoof the installed version???

*waiting semi-patiently*

I didn't know how official the word from Nokia has been thus far, but this seems pretty official, doesn't it? By sharing it, I was trying to help myself with the grieving process. You have to finally get past denial before the healing can begin, right? Obligatory meme.

............... ................... ................

I'm going to give that a blanketed "no".

There is no update that will allow for up-to-date flash, because there is no up-to-date flash made for the device to speak of.

There is no solution at the moment. Not even from Nokia.
