File sharing for NIT in home network?
Hi folks --
I'm looking for a way to copy files between my home PCs and my tablet via WiFi. The tablet doesn't expose its drives the way the Windows machines do. Is there a way to change this? I don't think so ... browsing around the forum has turned up some other solutions, but I haven't seen anything that would allow the file transfers to be run from the PC. It occurred to me that, if I could run an FTP server on the tablet, I could log into it from the PC with any suitable FTP program. I'm out of my area of expertise here; is this feasible? If so, the next question is: is there an FTP server available for the tablet? I did find the "dropbear" SSH server. I know that SFTP runs over SSH; does that mean that dropbear supports SFTP? Thanks -- |
Re: File sharing for NIT in home network?
dropbear sucks. Just install openssh. Gives you full SFTP access. I use openssh on tablet and FileZilla on PC, works flawlessly.
Also, there is a FTP server (a few actually), I think it is called Maemo FTP. |
Re: File sharing for NIT in home network?
OK, I installed OpenSSH via the app manager, but it's not showing up on any menus. Is there some documentation available on this? I'm pretty new to the tablet. I've used Unix before, but not in many years. I don't mind fiddling around with shell commands, but I do need a bit more info to get started. I found some man pages for OpenSSH ... do I just need to start sshd from the command line?
Thanks again -- |
Re: File sharing for NIT in home network?
If you have installed the OpenSSH client and server then you should be able to log in to your NiT from the PC using the command:
ssh root@NiT.IP.Address Then enter your password when it asks for it. I can recommend Gftp for the NiT. |

Or just use WinSCP if you're on Windows.

Re: File sharing for NIT in home network?
I transfer files using Open SSH Server on my N800 and connecting from a PC with Filezilla using FTPS.

Re: File sharing for NIT in home network?
Any reason you want to specifically drive the transfers from the PC?
To do this in a round-about way, you could try pyrdesktop and enable disk sharing. Your remote windows session will see your tablets disks. If you're willing to consider driving the transfers from your tablet: a) Wizard Mounter b) HFS I just came across this today and haven't tried it with my n810. Good luck! |
