Re: New Samsung Tablet.
hehe. I've seriously got to consider grabbing one of these when they're available. Mostly just to see how good it is.
|
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
kinda low on spec info on that one...
|
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
It looks rather ugly... Any word on the OS/preinstalled software?
|

Re: New Samsung Tablet.
windows mobile 6.1...:)_
gosh I really dont like windze on tablets.... |
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
Wait, WinCE? Oh good gawds. Forget it.
|
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
One day we will live in a world where we don't have to WinCE.
I can just imagine the hardware engineers after all their work going to the platform meeting: "You want to put *what* on it?!" |

more software for the former ;) |
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
WinCE is the underlying technology that Windows Mobile runs on and is the source of its crappyness power.

Re: New Samsung Tablet.
ugh, talk about confusing...
|
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
Meh, Mobile, WinCE. Same dog, different spots. It's still Windows and it's still produced by Microsoft. Bah. And here I was hoping that Samsung would actually do something intelligent. :rolls eyes:

Re: New Samsung Tablet.
like what, symbian? ;)
|
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
From other search results it definitely seems to be destined to be a WinMo infected device, probably Mobile 6.5 rather than 6.1.

Re: New Samsung Tablet.
Hey, anything is an improvement over WinCE/Mobile. Even Symbian. Although Symbian is now open source, so Maemo's gonna have some competition here really soon. ;)

Re: New Samsung Tablet.
Well, having owned a PDA with CE for 5 years and an n810 for 1 year, I'm ready to go back to CE any time.
At least there's software on CE that works and does what you need, I'm really fed up with 1000 half-baked crap opensource apps that only do 10% of what you need. And this remark is coming from an open-source contributor... so guess how disappointed I am in what the n810 has to offer. One word of advice for the people who posted that CE is crap: get a device and use it for a year. It may not be hackable or cool, but it is a tool that simply works and gets the job done. My 5 year old PDA still works perfectly and is for some tasks even faster than the n810 - go figure. </rant> |
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
I had a hp ipaq 4700 and it still is after 5 years way ahead of the nokia tablet--and has not lost its resale value

Re: New Samsung Tablet.
I see April 1 is going strong today :)
|
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
that or the beginnings of a new pissing contest...
|
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
It looks to me like a Samsung+WinMo version of an N810-WME. I'd be more impressed with a GSM/WCDMA version.
Though, it has 4 improvements over the N810: 1) MicroSD card instead of miniSD, 2) 4GB internal storage, 3) HDMI video out, and 4) Accelerometer (which I presume means it'll support screen rotation at all, unlike the N810) But, with WinMo, I'm just not interested. Maybe if Samsung gets Android and Mer on it... |
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
I saw no hdmi port on the thing.

Re: New Samsung Tablet.
I also don't see any sign of an HDMI port. In fact it looks really close functionally to an N810 Wimax Edition (but with WinMo instead of MaeMo). Presumably the buttons on the right of the keyboard are the "full screen, zoom in, zoom out" buttons that we know and love.
Kind of odd isn't it? Nokia discontinues a WiMax tablet for the Xohm service, then after the merger Samsung brings out a very similar WiMax tablet for the now-named-Clear service. It doesn't seem to make commercial sense. I can't help wondering if there was some kind of backroom deal done in conjunction with the merger. Nokia had a mature product and must have already amortized most of their N810 R&D costs against the non-WiMax edition, so surely they had a cash cow here. Very weird. Regards, Roger |
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
dont know about the bottom two, but the top one is probably a soft key, like one find on any modern mobile phone. note that there is a matching one at the top left of the keyboard area as well. and also on the right and left of the screen (for when the keyboard is not in use).
|
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
It's hard to imagine why you'd have tiny keyboard softkeys in addition to the nice big ones on the screen. I can't see how you could use the screen to give function to more than one pair of softkeys, so the small "softkeys" are a puzzle.
The other two keys at the right appear to be labelled "+/Up" and "-/Dn". There's a dedicated Internet Explorer key above the D-pad, and of course a "Windows" key. How many "OK" buttons do you need? There's the center of the D-pad, the ENTER key, and an OK key just beneath ENTER. |
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
easier to reach with thumbs while using the keyboard?
that is, not having to shift the grip to get to them... |

Re: New Samsung Tablet.
I am still confused, if I buy one of these, can I get rid of Winsucks off from it and put Maemo on it?

I'd rather Windows Mobile than have to learn something newly annoying. WM is the beast I know.

Mer? Mer is, as far as I know, just like Maemo. If you're not already familiar with Maemo, why are you on this forum? :-) |
Re: New Samsung Tablet.
Samsung Mondi is now nearing release (01 Aug) with suggested price of US$450. Apparently VOIP isn't possible with the current setup?!
How long until WinSung refugees begin begging for a Mer port? Has Samsung ever supported any open source effort? |
