digia @scene

ok, at the suggestion of someone else, i'll start a new thread. installed digia @scene from extras devel (after installing digia @web from the same place) and wow... this couuld be a great piece of software! lots more functionality than mytube (but nowhere as fast) and needs a way to change default storage location (it defaults to internal 2gig memory, of which i have 50megs free?) i'd rather store to my external, where all my other audio and videos are... very cool interface though

Re: digia @scene

How did you get it to install? Even with extras-deval on it won't install since the QT libraries aren't there..

Oberon85 2009-04-17 01:59

Re: digia @scene

ouch.. not sure... I have tear installed, and piles of other bits and pieces that I test... Just enabled the extras-devel repository, and installed Digia @web first, then installed digia @scene. @ web is also cool; I had none of the crashing problems mentioned by others, and surfed for almost an hour this afternoon on it. A little slow compared to tear, (reallly slow on gmail!) but a fun tool to play with as it is developing.

Hi all,

I just uploaded a new version 1.0.2 of @scene to extras-devel. Should be visible soon.

In this version we have fixed the problem of not starting in full screen mode, change in YouTube API and some minor bugs.

thanks

Re: digia @scene

Tuuka, thanks for posting here. @scene is really a great app to have on the tablet!
Two questions regarding functionality:
1. I way have missed it, but it seems to me that there currently is no easy way of accessing YouTube *channels* that one has subscribed to. I can search, but that's pretty click-inefficient. Say, if one follows all the Ted Talks from YouTube user tedtalksdirector, it would be really great if one could start up @scene, jump to the list of subscriptions and just play the video that was uploaded last.
2. I find it hard to jump forward / backward in a stream. Also, stopping a longer stream and resuming to watch it later has also been a problem for me (e.g. when watching Google Tech Talks, which are about 60mins). Do you see a way of addressing these things in future versions?

Are there volume controls? Also, in the initial search results, I cannot seem to veiw description of the video. Do others have the same difficulty? The "I" button does work while viewing the vdeo tho.

Yes, there are volume controls. On the N810, you need to use the plus and minus keys on top of the device (not sure where they are on the N800). I'm also having the same issue when clicking on the "I" button.

Digia @web is also great.
I installed it this morning and posted a new thread about it that was imediately merged into this obscure one. >> http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ighlight=digia

Since I didn't want my positive post to be attached to a 3 page negative ramble with no follow up, and there was no communication from the moderator who moved it, I deleted it.

In any event digi @web installs and runs fine too. It runs much quicker than microB or from what I have seen of digi @scene. :)

Both digia@web and digia@scene are wonderful applications. I do not know if it is a single developer or a group, but really hats off to them.

These are the best applications in the recent past. I dont undertstand why they are not getting the attention they truly deserve

There is a blue arrow on the center of the screen, click on it rotates webpage, potrait to landscape or vice versa. Is this frunction from digia @web or is it my own screen rotation? Yes, the digia softwares are very sweet :)

I agree, they have NOT gotten the attention they deserved.

I tried the blue arrow and it brings up the menu up for me. I dont have rotation installed in my tablet so i assume that is an additional function if you have it installed which is pretty cool

Here are the things i noticed about digia@web:

1. The best way to use screen estate is to close the keyboard and select not to show the osk on tapping . That way we have lots of real estate.
2. Once the blue lines appear on the lower right corner of the browser after the page loads, ths panning is very smooth and intuitive. I wish it had fit width. That would be a killer feature.

Umm, so it is my own rotation that enable the rotation. Pretty cool. It is convenient that one does NOT have to get off full screen to access the rotation function and the onscreen scaling is also very convenient too.

MY friend, you should install the rotation, it is really really fun when browsing the websites. What is the hesitation? http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=28711, do it on the MMC boot then you are NOT burning bridges.

Yes it is tres cool... these features were what prompted me to start a seperate thread. The impression anyone would have from the old thread was that the app didn't work... Oh well maybe Oberon85, the OP of this thread can edit the title to include Digi @web. :)

Press the tablet menu button will activate a menu of setting. On N800, it is the rectangular button above the house.

Sorry for not being specific. You can find that in the control panel> text input settings> only finger keyboard.

Would that be below the curly q thingy? :p

and sachin007 thanks. originaly I had gone to control panel but I was looking under "display"... in 2+ years I never have gone to > text input settings... I forgot it was there.

...now let's check what's under the hood. I would be most cool if I could use a copy of my UserContent.css from microB.

Edit: No such luck.:( But there is hope. :)

...and no matter what I set the text input settings for, once the keyboard is called it will pop up from then on whenever a finger or stylus is lifted.
An interesting behavior though is that if you leave a stylus or finger on the screen in "tap down", you can use another finger to pan around the page... Fascinating.

Interesting, I do not seem to have that problem. I uncheck "Launch finger kb with dpad" and Launch finger kb" to "Never", so far so good.

Re: digia @scene

Is there a way to sort by date all the youtube videos posted by a certain member?

For example right now I do a search for a member. start playing one of his videos, then click on his name. (so far this is the only way I've found to be able to see all the videos posted by that person.)

a list of videos pops up say 700 videos for example, displaying 1-30 etc. the videos are displayed by relevance.
When I click on display by date. it sorts basically only those 1-30 videos by date, but not all 700 videos.

In the settings I changed the search parameters to display by date always, but this doesn't do anything to solve the problem. I simply get 1-30 displayed in date order, but not all 700 videos. The 700 videos seem to always be displayed by relevance.

Thank you.

Hi All,

I just uploaded new version 1.0.3 of Digia @scene to extras-devel repository.

It contains one major feature: now it is possible to store the videos also to memory card.

There are also some small fixes in the package.

It would be great if you can test this release and if there are no major problems found I will put this to extras repository.

We have not found any problems in our testing, but it may be that some items are only found in the field.

Great app! It updated fine. Is it, or will it be possible to view/access YouTube account subscriptions from within Digi @scene?

Being able to save search parameters in "favorites" would also be a plus.

Re: digia @scene

Hi YoDude,

You partially get subscriptions functionality through contacts. There you can see all videos of an author by adding her to as a friend. But the real subscriptions functionality is not yet implemented.

Also the search saving is not implemented, but some help may come from the search that remembers words (but not sort and criteria parameters).

Hi All,

Now the 1.0.4 is out and also in the extras repository (so you can use the normal application catalog to install. Biggest change is still the possibility to save to memory card. There are also some small fixes, but no other major features.

Dantronic - there is possibility to sort by date in the drop down menu. Is there some use case that does not work with that?

With 1.0.4 we have also made it to run nicely in Ubuntu desktop. This package will be available next week from our product page.

Tuukka

Hi, thanks.

Ya as I explained before, the sort does not work properly.
When for example you click on the name of a member that submitted several videos, for example hundreds of videos. Digia will sort by date, but only a page at a time.
For example:
the member has 700+ videos. I have it set for Date sorting, I have it set to display 50 videos per page. When I look at that members videos, the first 50 videos will be sorted dates like this:
28/05/09, 28/05/09, 19/02/09, 15/01/09, 29/11/08, 24/11/08, 20/08/09 etc etc...

The next 51-100 videos upload dates will look like this:
14/04/09, 24/02/09, 31/01/09, 27/01/09, 16/12/08, 24/11/08, 29/10/08, etc. etc...

The next 101-150 videos upload dates look like:
19/05/09, 14/05/09, 14/05/09, 13/05/09, 30/04/09, 14/04/09, 18/03/09, 24/02/09, etc. etc..

Anyhow you get the picture, the Dates are sorted incorrectly. Can this be fixed? it somewhat makes that function useless.

Thanks a lot for the app! :)

Same here. @scene does not play any videos. No rotation kernel installed, and not WiMAX edition but standard N810 with latest Diablo. As a side note, mytube never played videos on my device, too. Canola and MediaBox have no problem playing YouTube videos on my device, though.
