Hey guys,

please try 0.6.3.22. I've added support for sharing plug-ins. I've only tested it using email which works fine. If you have some sharing plug-ins installed, please give it a try. Especially try it with the Evernote plug-in. Thanks :)

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

It uploads the note to Evernote, but not as a text/html (says size 0), but rather as an "acgi" attachment...

Also, now it crashes with "Internal error", when trying to switch the notes...

Do you think it would be possible to add support to sync notes over ssh like in the official tomboy program? That would be sweet! Also, in the mean time is there any good way to sync notes manually?

Strange, I think I have to get an Evernote account to test this. About the crashing: Does it only crash after sharing a note? If yes, does it also crash after sharing via email.

I'm just asking, because here it did yet crash.

I'm not planning to support sync via ssh. I just don't have the time to do so. Best chances to sync is currently Ubuntu One. If you don't want them to have your notes, have a look at Snowy (the official Tomboy sync server). They have just released version 0.1.

It's also possible to roll your own rsync or unison solutions. But you won't have proper conflict handling etc. See for example: http://blaise.ca/blog/2010/05/06/how...y-with-unison/

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

Sharing to Evernote is wired. I'm also getting a .acgi file. That also happens if I send any html file using Petrovich. But if I send the html to Evernote via email everything works as expected.

Also Ovi sharing does not accept .html files. Could that really be? What's more common than html?

Hadn't noticed that. Great!!! Been waiting for this so I can email notes.

Any chance of a feature from Tomboy where when you search in search all notes and then it narrows it down to notes with that search result, when you go into a note the search term is highlighted?

Also I note that the search in Conboy is not exact phrase match (which is maybe why it does not highlight the search term when you go into a note). Any chance an exact phrase match search could be implemented. Peharps by adding quotations to the start and end of the search term.

Finally on search when you search inside a note the search is case sensitive. So if the term is Student and the note contains student it will show as not having any results when you search. Anyway to change this so it shows matching results whether the first letter is upper or lower case? Bear in mind that there is no way to change the first letter of your search from uppercase. When you type the first letter is uppercase and even if you press shift it is still uppercase. So to search to see if the word appears in the middle of the sentence I have to type Sstudent then delete the first S.

One final thing (sorry for going on so much) I don't know if this has been mentioned but if I try to create a new linked note and the items selected in the original note are many lines Conboy closes up without creating the linked note. My notes are generally long lists with one word on each line - so don't know if it is the same result if for example you select one paragraph with alot of text.

I found the reason. The sharing dialog is killing my xml parser. Nice  I've reported it and now I'm looking for a work around. https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10849

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

Hi Conny,

thanks for the great app. It's also very nice that it seems to open faster than almost any other app on the phone. Also the indent/bullet button is handy since i use the app mostly for todo-lists.

I am interested in using the sync through ubuntu one (I use tomboy on ubuntu), but I am feeling quite stupid atm since I can't seem to find anything about sharing anywhere in the conboy interface. I am using conboy 0.6.3 from extras on fremantle. Where can I configure conboy for syncing through ubuntu one?

thanks in advance

Sync is currently only available in the extras-devel version, because it's not completely stable yet. If you give it a try, please create a backup of your notes first (By using the backup app, or by copying /home/user/.conboy/ to a save place).

Feedback would be very welcome :)

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

Hi, thanks for your suggestions, but let me first say, that I'm not sure when/if I can realize them. My time is really limited and unfortunately Conboy is still very much a one man show. Also the uncertain situation about GTK apps on MeeGo is quite demotivating (but that another topic). But let's see....

Highlighting the search results is missing. True. Could you please file an enhancement request for that in bugzilla, so I won't forget about it.

I have to look into that. Not sure if it's easily possible. Tomboy is also not doing it. If it's important for you please file another/separate enhancement request.

Yea, I've always wanted the search to be case insensitive. Unfortunately the GTK API made this really hard. I would say it even qualifies as bug. So please file it.

Sorry for putting the load on you, but I'll simply forget about it if I don't have a proper bug report. Thanks for using/testing/reporting :)

thanks Conny, I love this app and use it a lot!

A little feedback on the sharing by email. Personally, I'd prefer it if all the content of the note was displayed in the body of the email, instead of as an attachment.

Is that functionality possible?

Thanks for the feedback! But unfortunately I canīt change how the sharing is working. The behavior is defined by the Maemo platform. I can only pass in a file and the platform decides that it should be an attachment. Thereīs nothing I can do about it - sorry :(

Could you please start conboy from the terminal, then try to sync and paste the output you get in the terminal here or send it via PM. It's still not as stable as I want it to be, so this could help me find some more bugs.

Thanks!

Hi, great app it has thunderously helpful.
I wanted to ask if there would be any chance of a desktop widget to show a specific note? Not allow editing, just show a note and when you click on it it would open the note in conboy?

Thanks!

It would be great to have such a widget and I will support anyone who wants to develop it. Unfortunately I won't find the time to do it myself.

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

I was just using conboy to sync up some notes I have in Tomboy on my laptop so I can take a list to the hardware store, and I wanted to praise your app again. This (in concert with using Tomboy on Linux and Windows, and syncing it all with ubuntu one) is just great and is so useful. I haven't logged in to Evernote or used the yellow notes in Outlook since I started using this combo of apps. Thanks for your work on this!

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

Is there a way to sync between Tomboy and Conboy (using SSH presumably)?

In the past I just copied my Conboy notes to my Tomboy watch folder. However, I started sorting my notes into briefcases on Tomboy (I think it is called briefcase - I can't remember) but my method of copying my Conboy notes to the Tomboy folder meant I would have to replace all notes in the folder with the newer notes from Conboy and Tomboy treated them all as completely new notes which meant my briefcase sorting was lost.

I want to be able to sync my notes to Tomboy and still preserve the briefcase sorting.

If there is a way to sync does sync in both directions? What I mean is if I last edited the note on Conboy when I sync the Tomboy version is updated to the version last edited on Conboy. If on the other hand the note was last edited on Tomboy then when I sync the Conboy version is updated to reflect the edits on Tomboy. Or is the sync one way only, so the Tomboy version always replaces the Conboy one even though the Conboy one is the last edited one.

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

Please heeeeeelp!!!!

Don't know what I have done but somehow Conboy is no longer saving changes to my notes. When Conboy is open the changes are saved. So if I change a note and then go back to the front page the edited note is top of the list (if sorted by date). If I go back into the note the changes are there. However, if I close Conboy and then open it again the changes are gone. Strangely this problem only applies to existing notes. If I create a new note then all the changes are saved when I close.

How did I get into this mess? I don't know. but last thing that happened before I noticed this issue is that I copied all my notes to my laptop using WinSCP and OpenSSH. When it asked me if I wanted to replace all notes on the laptop I selected newer only. Doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary there.

Could I have deleted something from the home/user/.Conboy folder or elsewhere that is needed to tell Conboy to save?

I have deleted all the notes and replaced them with the ones in my App data folder on my laptop where Tomboy uses as its watch folder but this does not fix the issue.

EDIT:

I have even tried uninstalling Conboy, deleting the .Conboy folder and then reinstalling Conboy, copying the notes back from my laptop to the .Conboy folder and I still have the same issue.

You've most likely changed the file owner to root. Issue a
chown -R user <name of conboy user folder>

Edit: checked and it's just .conboy, so open xterm, type
sudo gainroot
chown -R user .conboy

AFAIK anything you transfer to the N900 with winscp will be owned by root, so you'll always need to do this when moving things to your user directory.

Note that the problem actually probably didn't manifest until the step where you deleted them and then copied them from the laptop, or you had another issue before that which may still need to be addressed.

This is a perfect example of why doing things as root is dangerous...

Thanks. Unfortunately WinSCP was the only way to get the files I edited on Tomboy on to the N900 because I have a faulty USB port.

I tried the command you entered but it did not make any difference (although I was not sure at which point I was to run the command - before transferring the files using WinSCP, after, before closing Conboy after editing note). However, I think what you said is almost certainly the cause of the problem.

I have managed to find a way around the issue though and my notes are saving now, although Conboy has now become unstable (it crashes like three times before finally opening). Hopefully this will sort itself out.

Anyway the work around I did was that I put memory card into my blackberry and connected blackberry to laptop. I then transferred the Tomboy files to the media card using USB. Then I put the memory card into the N900 and used xterm cp command to copy them to the .Conboy folder thereby avoiding having to use WinSCP and like I said they are now saving.

Very ungainly process though so I think I will stick to just editing notes on my N900 rather than on laptop as well, at least until I can fix the faulty USB port on my device.

Can't comment on the instability but your workaround accomplished the same thing (it left the files owned by your user account instead of root). In the future if you need to copy notes to your N900, you can use winscp and then issue the chown command before starting up conboy.

Hey guys,

sorry for the delay, but I was away for a couple of days. All these messages about crashes don't sound good to me. Am I right that this was with the stables version from Extras (not -testing, not -devel)? If yes, someone must have updated a dependency of Conboy in an incompatible way :( I'll install that version and give it a try right now. I hope we can figure this out very soon. Thanks to all for reporting this.

Nice that you like it :) I don't take donations, but I'm always happy if people write something good about it, recommend it to others or leave a nice comment on the download page.

The version called "Conboy (unstable)" is a really old version and I can't recommend you using it. The real "unstable" version is just called "Conboy" as well, but it's located in extras-devel instead of extras.

Are you having "File Transfers" installed as well? It looks like this was the problem for adrianmilev. I'll have a look what this app is doing.
