I think there is currently no dropbox client for the N900, so syncing via dropbox is not possible. It is possible to send the tomboy notes to the N900 using for example scp or rsync. While doing this Conboy should not run.

I'm currently adding support to sync Conboy to the web (e.g. Ubuntu One or Snowy). Then you could sync Tomboy with Conboy via one of those web services.
At the moment there are still too many bugs, but as soon as they are fixed, this should be the best solution.

Hi Conny,

thx for your reply:)

I'm a Macuser; is it possibel to sync easily by web with "Snowy" and the webservices?

Not yet, but soon. Biggest problem is, that I have so little time at the moment. If you use Tomboy >= 1.0 on your Mac, then you can already sync it to Ubuntu One. Once I fixed many bugs it should be possible to sync Conboy with the same notes on Ubuntu One.

Snowy is still under heavy development, not sure when they will finish it.

How about voting for the support to be added?

https://www.dropbox.com/votebox

search for "maemo" to find items to vote for.

I've updated to last Conboy from Extras-devel. Synchronisation with Ubuntuone is working! At least in one way, from server to N900. Many thanks conny.

Awesome. What should the url be in the configuration in the new version?

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

Thanks!
Had one note in ubuntu one, tried 1st sync:
Synchronization failed

Error Message was:
json_get_note_list() returned NULL

Added another note and got the same.
Then when i deleted all my notes from ubuntu one, I got:
'Server revision older than our revision'

Tried makin a new note again un ubuntu one and got the same as the 1st time.

Moved .conboy to conbak from ~/ and then synch worked.

Also after, tried moving the notes in conbak back to .conboy, they show up ok in conboy but won't sync to ubuntu one. When i edited one of them and tried syncing again, got json_get_note_list() returned NULL

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

I just fixed a packaging problem and re enabled the sync UI. The new versions appearing in extras-devel ATM are only coming because I have to do some test builds.

The code is unfortunately still unchanged. So the problems are still there, but I'll let you know as soon as I've actually changed something relevant. Promised :)

I just released a new stable version. Nothing new for people who are already using the -devel builds. But people only interested in stable releases might find it interesting :)

Since the last stable release was such a long time ago, I thought it would deserve a new thread. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=462707

Shift+Cursor keys for selection. Ctr+c and Ctr+v for copy and paste. Also have a look at the FAQ here: http://conboy.garage.maemo.org/

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

Great app. Two suggestions.

1. Would like for an undo option to be added. I have highlighted long text before and deleted by mistake when I meant to copy. An undo option would have meant this wasn't a disaster.

2. An option to send documents. I want to back up my notes by sending them to my email. But no email option.

The default note application can do both of these. The second option can be resolved if someone can tell me where the notes are saved on the device. Can't seem to find that.

Also where are

I would like to have both features as well. There are already enhancement requests about it.

Conboy deleted a lot of one of my notes. Please help!

I love taking notes in conboy. I've been making a huge list in one note over many days, but suddenly almost all of the text in the note is gone! It doesn't seem like any of my other notes has been changed. I know that I didn't do this.

Is there any chance of getting this text back? Does Conboy take any backups or anything like that? i'm quite desperate here.

update: I see now that parts of another note I've made in Conboy is also gone. In both cases it's the last part of the note that is gone.

in Xterminal. Go to the .conboy directory. Do you see your data in one of the xml files there?

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

Possibly a known issue :

If I want to select/highlight a text longer than the screen by tap+drag I have to set Conboy in non-fullscreen mode.
In fullscreen mode the page does not scroll when I reach the top/bottom of it.

( Doing the same in e.g. leafpad works in both modes. )

Thanks. Doesn't seem to solve the problem for me because the email programme only allows you to attach files from images, audio, documents, videos, camera.

Also the notes don't seem to be named according to note heading but rather some random numbers and letters. I need to find how to navigate to the user folder as well because the way I navigated there was through some web thing and I couldn't open the files from there.

You talk about Conboy on N800 or N810, right? Could you please file a bug about this. I´m not using my N810 anymore so I´ll likely forget about it otherwise. Thanks :)

Right, sorry, :
N810 , OS 43-7 , cloned to int. mmc.

Will find out how to file a bug, never did before.

Re: Conboy deleted a lot of one of my notes. Please help!

May I ask what characters the note contained? Maybe Conboy is choking on the XML when it reaches a cetain character... this is pretty unlikely though.

forteller 2010-01-29 20:39

Re: Conboy deleted a lot of one of my notes. Please help!

jarvel: Yes, thank you very much! I found the .note files containing all the text! And after quite a lot of trouble I got them off onto my computer. I am so relieved! :)

windsurfer: I've now looked at the .note's and found what seems very likely to be the culprit. Both of the notes where text was missing in Conboy there was this code exactly at the point where the rest of the text dissappeared:

Code:

[normal text I had written]
</note-content>
  <list-item dir="ltr">
[normal text again]

None of this should be there, obviously, and the /note-content explains why I didn't see the text belove this in Conboy. But I have no idea how it got there. There was no special characters of any kind before or after this code. If you work on Conboy, or know any who do, I hope you'll (ask them to) check it out. (or tell me where to report it). Thanks!

Hi, I´m the author of Conboy and I´m very sorry that you had troubles with it. The problem you´re having was reported about a week ago. Please subscribe to this bug and report all your findings there.

What we now need is a reliable way to reproduce this problem. Sorry again for the inconvenience :(

I have had the same problem as you with several notes. I'm wondering too that what is causing this. For characters and symbols my notes contain scandinavian letters like ä and ö, and for symbols Conboy's own bullets. Most of my notes contain bulletlists.

You said that your note didn't contain any special characters. Do you see any similarity to my notes? Did you use a lot of bullets for instance?

forteller 2010-01-30 14:12

Re: Conboy deleted a lot of one of my notes. Please help!

Nozu: Yes, in the note where I "lost" the most data I had many bulletpoints. In the one where I "lost" just a little data I don't think I had any bullet points. But all the data that disappeared from that note had been copy-pasted from Evince, and it might have started with a "tab" (whatever the indentation you get when you press tab in a text editor is called)

conny: Thank you very much for following the forums and coming here to say what you said. I appreciate that very much! I'm afraid I don't know how it happened, so I can't help with reproduction, but I'll add what info I have to the bug.

Not sure why I haven't noticed conboy until yesterday, but great so far. Very intuitive and love the portrait mode. Personal wiki on the N900- awesome. Just a few quirks, but I notice already mentioned.

Anyway, I've searched this thread and a bit on google, just a quick question: is there a config file somewhere? I don't find one in any of the obvious places.

BTW - integrate with U1 (I noticed early on the thread you are looking into - don't see anything obvious to setup synch yet so not sure where it stands) would be awesome.

The configuration is stored in gconf and the note files are located in /home/user/.conboy

It´s still work in progress. The problem is that I´ll have to hand in my final thesis at the end of February. So I´m quite busy right now ;)

After that I hope I´ll find some time to get things moving again.

Re: Conboy deleted a lot of one of my notes. Please help!

I think it has something to do with bullets or with copy&paste. Possibly a combination of both. But I still don´t have a reliable way to reproduce the problem. Once we have that, it shouldn´t be that hard to fix.

If you find out anything, please let me know. Either through this thread or directly in bugzilla. Thanks :)

Thanks for the continuing interest :) The thing is, that I've to hand in my final thesis at the end of the month, so I'm quite busy these days. If everything works out as expected, I should find some time to work on Conboy in March again. Sorry for all those delays.

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

This app is extremely useful, looks good, works well and I use it often. I would like to put many more random notes in it but I find that, due to there being no way to group notes, I add notes sparingly.

I used to use notecase on the n810 to store a fairly large heirarchy of notes, but that app does not work well with the n900 yet. It would be excellent if there was some way to group notes - especially in some sort of hierarchy so I could then start importing from notecase. Are there any plans to do this?

Did you notice that there is a notecase pro version which works on the n900 (except that it is not hildonized a lot?
The unregistered edition has some limitations compared to the licensed one but it is at least usable for most purposes I used the community edition for.

Re: Conboy - Note Taking Application (Tomboy clone)

I know that Conboy doesn't have an explicit save mechanism but instead saves automatically, but can you tell me (and maybe document on http://conboy.garage.maemo.org/ for future reference) how the autosave works. Is it only when you close a note (e.g. navigate to a different note) or close the app, or does it save the current note periodically?

I ask because I often leave Conboy open with an edited note, and want to know if that note is safe in case the device crashes or runs out of battery.

It´s planned to support notebooks. Notebooks are more like tagging, though. A note can be in several notebooks, but there is no hierarchy. Still, it can be used to group notes - just not hierarchical :)

Changed notes are saved, after you stopped typing for 5 seconds. Also changed notes are saved, whenever you switch to another note and if you close the application.

Generally you´re notes are saved quite often :)

I like this idea. Notes in multiple notebooks would be very useful. Hierarchies can be a pain actually. As hierarchies grow it gets harder to categorise notes as they often belong in a few places. Mine grew quite large and search was not great on notecase on the n810 - no F3 key to repeat the search!

Any idea when this feature will be added? I don't know how other people feel but for me this is more important than any other feature as it stops me adding notes!
