What OS should I use? (Nokia N810)
 

Hi, I received my Nokia N810 today and love it. I realise it comes with OS2008 (Maemo 4.1?)but was wondering if there are better OS out there? I don't want to change OS for the sake of it, but if I will get a good performance increase or am able to use more software, I wouldn't mind changing OS.

I am a life time Windows user and new to Linux.

Not for day-to-day use.

Just make sure your software is up to date.

It's not so complicated -- reflashing is as simple as downloading some Nokia software, plugging you N810 into your computer, and letting the software do its thing. The nice thing is that you can't really mess much up... Just reflash ad it goes back to "factory."

According to Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update, I already have the latest software (DIABLO 5.2008.43-7)

Is this the latest software? If so, I don't need to update.

Ok thanks very much everyone! How often does Nokia update their software? Is another update due to be released soon?

There are rumors that there will be no more updates; the last was quite some time ago.

Very likely no additional updates from Nokia for Diablo, but there may be some small community updates coming in the future.

Are you talking about OS updates or software updates? the former will be nice.

OS updates. There's some discussion to hand over the keys to community so we can push the last few Nokia updates is the queue out and a few of our own patches. It wouldn't be any long-term support (unless somebody steps up) but it would be a nice way to fix the last few little niggles hanging about.
