is it necessary to convert video formatS?

it looks like the maximum resolution is 400*240, and 352*288 if the ratio is 4:3.
but this wiki just talks about Mplayer, not mentions canola2.

Think of it this way, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. IE, if the settings say something works best for Mplayer, it's likely that the same values are true for Canola.

Canola2 uses an embedded version of Mplayer.

windows XP professional, Dell laptop.
.MOV files are generated by Kodak digital camera. they are small.
this is the output of console:

CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1500MHz (Family: 6, Model: 9, Stepping: 5)
VIDEO: [jpeg] 640x480 24bpp 30.000 fps 0.0 kbps ( 0.0 kbyte/s)
Selected audio codec: [pcm] afm: pcm (Uncompressed PCM)
Expand: -1 x -1, -1 ; -1, osd: 1, aspect: 0.000000, round: 1

(<32) need lower samplerates (i.e. -srate 8000).

Re: is it necessary to convert video formatS?

I've been using TMPGEnc Express to convert any videos I want to watch on my n810 to DivX 4.12 @ 400x240/23.976 FPS and MP3 128KB/48kHz. They look and sound great even in the Maemo player.

Since HD space is so not an issue these days I just have a directory on my NAS for my IT videos. They also end up a bit smaller than the originals so when I go on the road I can bring a bit more with me on my flash cards.
