Re: The new talk.maemo.org theme

1. For me the new theme looks very well and good integrated to the other areas in the maemo.org site. :-)

2. Is it possible to change the fav-icon to something more orange/white/grey? At the moment it seems to be the "old" one.

Clarification - When linked to http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/vaispy.php, Minimalistic Theme does not refresh the screen for updated posts at the same rate as the Normal Theme.

There's no evidence for that at all. Listing the threads (e.g. via New Posts) has always been fast for me. Actually opening a thread is slow, that's why I try to save on time by only opening threads which seems to be about something interesting. Now we're _forced_ to open them in order to know.

Even though some people read ITT only on a tablet, why do you think that should be the only option? For me that would be an impossible thing to do, as I actually try to read every new posting in the threads I'm interested in. There's no way I could possibly do that on the tablet, by far. I use the desktop, and that one _does_ have a mouse connected.

Yes, I don't think the minimalist theme is ready for the iSpy page. andrewfblack will be fixing the Minimalist theme so I hope that it will work together with the fixes.

Thanks.

It would be easier to scan titles for me if the formatting was

instead of

The new talk.maemo.org theme (Multi-page thread 1 2 3 ... Last Page )

but not indented quite so much.

Apologies if this is a repeat, this thread is TL;DR

right again, OTOH with the new theme it seems that opening a page is not as heavy as before.

True, l use both (a pc and the tablet), so let's say that I don't miss the feature when using the tablet, and I don't use it that much on the pc.
Anyway, after the knee-jerk reaction when seeing the new theme, I'm starting to like it, and I'm sure it'll get better with time.

I think the user's name font is way too big, I think it should be about the same size with Quote & Reply and not in bold.
Thanks for your great work!

Where did my Post Title go?

Where does Reggie live? And does he own a gun?

Please put the Post Title back. I like it; it's a point of reference, and sometimes I like to express my individuality (no, not really). Just make it much smaller than before. If you won't do this, then you should probably remove it from the "Go Advanced" screen. I'm not sure yet if I care enough to file a bug/feature/enhancement/dehancement/wish report. Maybe tomorrow.

Or alternatively you can put it where I did, make it smaller and put a background and borders to it, like a title to a group.

Speaking of avatars, I have decided to not resize avatars. Bigger avatars will just get cut at the sides. Just upload new 50x50px avatars when you can.

Thanks Reggie. With that and the removal of post titles having resulted in a more compact thread appearance, I'm rather happy with the new theme now.

Really tiny nuglet of an issue: The "What primary operating system so you use (PC, Mac, Linux, etc.)?" in the profile settings contains a typo - should be do rather than so.

Waited for a day or two for the impressions to set in. Kind of mixed emotions here. Oddly enough, I like it on my NIT, and much less so on the desktop (too spaced out). The high DPI makes it very readable, tho. Now, if only RSS worked right :(

What kind of RSS feed are you looking for?

A feed that shows ALL mesages for threads in a forum. I find the web interfaces of forums time-sinks and prefer to follow messages on RSS - and start up the browser only if I want to reply. Here (maemo talk/ItT), unfortunately, the RSS feeds that I see offer only the first messages of a thread. If there already is a way to make it work like SMF, google groups and virtually any other board with regard to RSS, let me know, maybe it's just me not seeing something.

Or you can just look at the text in your browser's title bar.

I've given the new look a chance, and while I didn't think I'd like it, I have to admit that it has grown on me:)

On the pc no problems,

on the tablet:

any chance of having the option to hide the 'Talk / Active Topics' column freeing up thread reading space? I tried searching the bug list...(prob did something wrong:o)

Well, he means the *per-post* title, not the thread title.

Personally, I don't care for it, though.

People only very rarely use anything other than "Re: <thread title>" anyway.

Re: The new talk.maemo.org theme

I don't know if this counts as a bug or enhancement, but ...

Some screen fonts, when font size is increased, get bolder much quicker than others. The screen font on iTT takes three clicks of Control-+ (or of the Text Size toolbar icon) to get bold. Contrast that with the New York Times font, which gets bold after one click (and thus without getting overly big in the process):

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/30/sc...=1&ref=science

I much prefer the New York Times font.

Most of the time (99.9%), no. I'm use a multi-tabbed browser in fullscreen mode with no toolbar. The title is in the tab but I usually have enough threads going that the few visable characters are meaningless. And the favicon doesn't help. I could play font-size games with the tab label, but I shouldn't have to. This is the first forum on the internet that supports individual post titles and doesn't display them. Please make them optional.

Minor thing here: the new ITT favicon seems to have white pixels in the corners, while the maemo.org one has clear pixels in the corners.

Not sure if anyone reported this?

In firefox 3.0.7 on centos, I cannot see the check boxes in my private message areas. So I have to click on each individual message to delete them.

Anyone else?
