Re: New members say hello !

Hi everyone!

Registered a couple of days ago, so I figured I'd write a hello in this very appropriate thread. I was originally set for getting an Android, but then found out about the N900 and got sold. So I've placed my pre-order, and now I'm waiting impatiently. Hope to be able to contribute to the community (which seems very nice)!

All you damn crazy kids get offa my front lawn! I go back to N770, have N810, N900 …Symbian S60 Fp2, Fp3, V5 phones, go back to s80, Treos in the phone world. Have been using this site for many years …duh since 770… never registered since the people here were relatively sane and purposed. Now with the N900 every friggin Normob who can't fight their way our of a wet paper bag – technically – is on this site whingeing and moaning like some pablum feeds nappie soliler!

I anoint myself the crusader of the bone heads, slayer of the *****ic and guardian of all that is sane, just and open! I pledge to defend the honor of maemo and work to make it, and the devices it runs upon the best user experience possible.

Huzzah!

Just registered. I've been watching forums from about 13th nov. Ordered N900 from MPD on 14th nov. Not had much to contribute as am new to linux (N900 will be my 1st phone in years) and dont have device as yet so.... Kind of know what to expect as have read probably 250-350 posts on n900. So hello all. Seems like a very helpful and friendly forum.

Welcome, welcome! We need more level heads here that understand MIDS. You will relish the N900 not just for the speed, but the tweakability!

Hello everyone,
Just registered today. I got my N900 a few days ago. I've installed some applications and was wondering where to post questions. Are there different forums for hardware and hardware issues? What about questions regarding Maemo 5 versus previous versions (as in will OS2008 apps work in the N900 and how to set up the repositories?)
Cheers,

Re: New members say hello !

Hi all!

Another Dutchy checking in.

As a Ubuntu user for the last 4 years i've been fighting with my fruitphone ever since i got it. When i read about the N900 i knew i had found my new phone. Already have a buyer for the rotten fruit, just waiting for my new baby to arrive!

-No more itunes (!!!)
-No more cracking your phone before it becomes even remotely functional
-No more single sourced, poorly documented, poorly executed, dirty hacks (cydia repo's) for things that should be standard
-No more lock-in (development, usage, if it doesn't fall within the Apple guidelines you're SOL)
-No more "the web lite" webbrowsing experience
-No more insanely scratch-prone build quality
-No more obscenely expensive, incompatible accessories (30 euros for a charger or 15 for just a usb cable?!)
No more!

To be fair, for it's time it was quite revolutionairy and i've enjoyed using it. It's just that after a while the above problems just became too much, and that's not even counting the screen failure on the first one (they did give me a warranty replacement after waiting 3 weeks though...).

First and last piece of fruity tech i'll ever own.

So i'm ready, bring it on
