I mean a place where software support for my KDE version can hang out.

One of the reasons I say this, is because I do not follow maemo / debian standards. I don't care what libs are available, IF my KDE needs them they are included in the tarbal :)

I need a deb file to download a 300MB tarball and extract it. Well its not really meant to do that, so its a hack.

I am proposing that there be a place for hacked software and OS and other things, separate from the supported forums.

This said, I realize there are lots of software out there who are not following proper standards.

So I think it should be clear to an end user, go to this forum and you should be ok to install what you find. Go to this forum, and there may be some pains involved :) Same concept as alternatives, but more of a separate forum to make things more clear.

So I thought, but I started seein' posts mentioning the other and I'm thinkin'... we better make it clear just in case one of the participants in this thread ever gets indicted...

Man, I hate when that happens. :p

They say NOKIAAAA you told me to come here, and I got screwed.

You probably already know this, but that famous Android thread no longer exists except in bits and pieces in the Google archives. I have pages 7, 8 and 9 saved if you ever want to relive those good times. My fear of history rewriting or erasing itself exists more with the forum changeover. And if anyone wants to offer an explanation why thread #21495 ["Android Installer - for 810 (800 works sort of)"] disappeared I'm all ears.

That is weird.

Can't help you with that thread, sorry.

But, hey, daperl, along these same lines, maybe you want to join in my request that the old wiki be put back online?

To answer the original question on this thread NOOOO!!

I feel that seperate forums would at best dilute and confuse the community and at worst split it. It would also duplicate work for everyone, which would be time better spent on fixing/improving what we have rather than reinventing everything

. Whilst I have been reading and lurking on the various discussions & arguements about themes/ catagories and personalities etc, the one thing that has struck me is the deep passion that a lot of people feel for the tablets and all that surround them. If we could harness all that energy and passion then this community would not only fly, but reach orbit!

Surely for the future of the community everyone should be working together, surely that's got to be less work, and better in the long term.

Most end users don't go to forums.
Most developers don't either ;)

Now that's a common mistake. A software is as far from the user as the developer is. :p

You know I consider you a virtual brother, but I was talking about censorship and I think you're talking about configuration management. I'm equally sympathetic and critical of people that search for information and people that maintain information. But in this case they're the same. So, if you're less apathetic than I am, get in there; go to the Main Page and start editing and don't stop until it's better than it was before. And when you're done with that, use your new clout to get a "Help" link on the main menu bar. This is the internet, transparent anarchy combined with unsupervised social clustering makes it all work. And gobs of electricity.

In the meantime, will someone please get this man an archived wiki. :)

Sorry, I was being more cryptic than usual. When penguinbait mentioned Android it reminded me of this major scorched earth thread that miraculously disappeared. This was before sulca's effort.

And good BB Code work! :)
