Re: Maemo (or maemo.org?) mascot proposal

people need pictures to know.
besides seb, this is an amusing thread :)

i would prefer to make a proper voting page with all suggestions posted to date on.
similar to how the proper maemo.org logo gallery was.

all on the same page, not the discussion around them.

its a mascot, its not based on anything scientific other than visual recognition.
theres many shots been posted in this thread which appeal or can be evolved and none of them would come out by a written vote.

I haven't read the entire thread, so my apologies if this has been proposed:

What about something wind-related? I searched for "wind" within the thread, and nothing appeared. And as Maemo OS versions were named after different winds (harmattan, fremantle, diablo, ...)
Aeolus was, according to the greek mythology, the ruler of winds. So it could be him, or any animal which goes flying...

Well opensuse linux uses something similar in green which is one drawback i guess

I think technically that logo is a gecko though. I think something stylized and vectorized and from a different angle and orange would be distinct enough. Someone with more time and graphic skills should try to extend this idea a little, i think.

i would say maybe the newts head as side angle view arching up through the orange e of the maemo text or maybe have a bottom view with the maemo text like 'in' the orange and black belly pattern.

How about we attempt to do this a bit more scientifically. Instead of calling out names and showing pretty pictures, why don't we go through the different kind of animals available, and do small votes.

Here's my suggestion:

Kingdom:
  • Plantae
    • Specific flower, or,
    • Tree
  • Animalia
    • Fish
    • Amphibians
    • Reptiles
    • Birds
    • Mammals
Once we've decided on which kingdom the community is favouring for, then offering options might become useful, but at this point there's 30 pages of topic, and nothing coming out of it.

Thanks

I understand your frustration, but that could just start another mess.

I think the newt wins by default, but maybe we need a poll...
