Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

Hello

Thanks for a great app that sadly worked only once...

I just got the ps3 slim 250GB and when I paired it with my N900 it worked beautifully with bluemaemo... once. When I exit bluemaemo and then reconnected, both devices said they were connected but nothing happened from any buttons. I tried removing pairing from both ends and re-pairing (with and without rebooting) but still nothing. The only difference between the first time (when it worked) and other times (when it didn't) was that after entering the security key bluemaemo just said "waiting for connection..." and nothing else happened. When it worked on the first try I think it just went to the main screen after entering that key. The ps3 said that connection succeeded on all tries.

Any idea what's going wrong?

Thanks

@VDVsx: This is an amazing app. Apart from the fact that it looks amazing it actually works!!! I only have one suggestion: When you select keyboard (doesn't matter whether you are connected to PC or PS3) make it so that the virtual keyboard disappears when you slide out the QWERTY keyboard on the N900 and you'll be left with a "mouse" screen. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say... Is that possible? Does it require much coding?

Make sure that when you're pairing it with your PS3 you select the 'Add another BD device' not 'Add a new BD controller' (or something along those lines I can't remember exactly what is says in the menu)

Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

Can someone make it so that it work with Xbox 360 controller or a PC keyboard?? Is it possible?

unkno 2010-01-18 05:31

Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

Xbox360 uses a wireless receiver which is not possible to connect to with the N900 while the PS3 uses bluetooth.

villo 2010-01-18 10:17

Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

@romanianusa: +1 on what unkno says, but also, you can use it as PC keyboard and mouse. Your computer needs to be BlueTooth enabled though.

Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

I downloaded it now and it works. Nice app.
But there is something i miss then..
The R3 and L3 buttons.. R3 zooms in and out in the PS3 web browser. This is nice when there is some small text on the screen.
The L3 button let you see all windows that are open in the browser.
I use the ps3 to watch some tv series from surfthechannel, so i really cant do without theese buttons..
Then on the keyboard, when you push the button to get the nummeric keys, there is no button (as far as i can see) that brings you back to the letters.
Also, when im watching a video in the browser, there is no way to move the cursor around the screen and i can't dobbel click X to get fullscreen..

Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

to be honest i think the next thing to do would be to change the keyboard on bluemaemo to use the n900s hardware keyboard as i find it would be really useful for sending messages and touchscreen on the n900 and the ps3s own on screen keeyboard are too slow.

In the left side next to 'space', try the 'ABC' button

You can't use the mouse profile in the browser ?

LOL Found the ABC button.. ;)
The mouse pad works. Should have tested a bit more before i wrote that..

But, will there be R3 and L3 buttons?

Also, i had to reconect to test the mousebutton, and to get connection i had to delete the first connection..
Is it possible to get the N900 to conect without having to use the PS3 controller?

Which keys they produce ? ie with which keys you can use the functionalities provided by these buttons from a regular bluetooth keyboard.

The reconnect feature should work (don't have a PS3 to test :) )

Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

I don't believe R3 and L3 keys are implemented on a bluetooth keyboard. Correct me if I'm wrong but I have a Logitech bluetooth keyboard branded for use with ps3 and I can't use R3 or L3 with it.

@VDVsx: Is the 'menu' button in the app supposed to replicate the action of the PS button on the PS3 controller? If so, it doesn't work for me even though the rest of the buttons work OK.

Yes, someone told me that this button is replicated by the "Windows" key in a regular BT keyboard.

I'm at work so i have not been able to test, but i found this in a google search:

remote = SonyBDRemote
button = L3
config = [

remote = SonyBDRemote
button = R3
config = ]

I dont know if theese buttons are on the keyboard..
Someone care to test if it works on L3 and R3?

I have a simmilar problem. When I pair my PS3 Slim with my N900 via Bluemaemo everything works fine the first time. But every following attempt fails. Well actually it doesn't really fail. The pairing works and the blue dot in the ps3 device manager even lights up, but apart from that no command seems to be registered by my ps3.

The funny thing is that when I remove the n900 from the ps3s device manager and pair the two devices from scratch everything works flawlessly until I close bluemaemo. :(

What are using the reconnect function or you choose "Establish connection" every time ?

Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

same thing here.. i have to delete the existing connection and then pair the phone with ps3 again to get it to work. This means that you have to use the controller before you can use the phone.. then mutch of the point is gone. Let's hope there will be a fix in the next upgrade. there is an alternative to register a bluetooth remote, but this option requires that you push and hold start+ps button at the same time. this cant be done with bluemaemo, atleast not at this moment..

Have you tried doing what I did? It's a little annoying that you have to do it every time. Remove the n900 from the ps3s device manager and you're good to go.

Could this problem be related to the ps3 slim?

No,that's the correct way, and you don't get any 'disconnected' message in the N900 after a while ? (~10 seconds after pressing a button)
If not, the PS3 is receiving the keys.

Unfortunatley not, but looking trough the posts I think I'm not the only one having this issue. Maybe if all of us (even the people that do not have this issue) were to post some information about our configuration, we might be able to find similarities between the people that have this issue and therefore get to the bottom of this. I'll start:

Playstation 3:
  • Firmware Version 3.15
  • It's the Slim Version of the PS3

Nokia N900
  • Firmware Version 2.2009.51-1
  • Bought in Vienna (Austria)

Installed Apps on my N900 (all updated to the latest version):
  • 3G/2G Mode Selection Applet
  • Airport
  • Angry Birds
  • Bluemaemo
  • Bounce Evolution
  • capsule
  • cpumem-applet
  • CrazyParking
  • Discs
  • Documents To Go Viewer Editon
  • Extra Decoder Support
  • fAPN
  • Firefox
  • Flashlight
  • FM Radio Player
  • fMMS
  • ForceaWather widget
  • gPodder Podcast Client
  • Gweled
  • ioquake3
  • Mameo 5 (obviously)
  • Mozilla Runtime
  • Ogg Support
  • Personal Dataplan Monitor
  • PrBoom
  • rdesktop (1.7-maemo1)
  • Sand
  • Simple FMTX desktop widget
  • Solitaire
  • SuperTux
  • The Milky Way Wallpaper
  • Xploder

This is definitely not the correct thread to say this but I did notice some Mac Users trying to pair bluemaemo to their Macs.

I have a Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard v. 10.6.2 and am Happy to post that I've been able to use the mouse, keyboard and presentation modules con bluemaemo succesfully.

I'll pair with my New PS3 as soon as I get home and install it and will be happy to report any issues.

What a great app!! Thanks

Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

For those how want to help, here are some instructions:

1 - Download & Install bluez-hcidump[1], as root: dpkg -i bluez-hcidump_1.42-0maemo2_armel.deb
2 - Turn Bluetooth on.
3 - Remove any previous pairings between the PS3 and the n900 (both sides)
4 - In a shell as root: hcidump > /home/user/MyDocs/ps3_connect_output (leave it in background).
5 - Start BlueMaemo normally and Establish a connection with the ps3, send some keys, make sure that the PS3 receives them.
6 - Stop BlueMaemo, go to the terminal window and hit 'ctrl+c'.

Second test.
1 - Turn Bluetooth on.
2 - In a shell as root: hcidump > /home/user/MyDocs/ps3_reconnect_output (leave it in background).
3 - Start BlueMaemo normally and try to reconnect to the ps3.
4 - Press some keys in BlueMaemo virtual keyboard.
5 - Stop BlueMaemo, go to the terminal window and hit 'ctrl+c'.

Send both files to vdv100 at gmail dot com, or upload them somewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Sent you the files via email.

One thing I did notice was that hcidump seemed to crash when doing the reconnect. I couldn't kill it with CTRL-C and had to kill it via the kill command.

Thanks.

Re: BlueMaemo and Playstation 3

I managed to do all of the things that you described above apart from the very last bit were you press ctrl+c... I press it and nothing happens...where do I find the two files that you talk about?
