Help needed with Bluetooth PAN problem
I've upgraded to the latest OS on my N800 (Diablo ver 5.2008.43-7) and found the Bluetooth PAN for Maemo add on is no longer working.
For my phone (SE K800i) this is the only way I've been able to connect to the internet. I've downloaded the latest version of BT Pan (maemo-pan 1.0.1 for Diablo) but I'm not sure how to configure it. I can see 'Dummy' in the Connections properties box which appeared after the download so I'm assuming this is the BT connection, but it's not listed when I choose 'change connection' from the status bar. Can any one help please? |

I 've paired the phone and tablet in the usual way and tested it with a file ok
l'll write up a noobs guide as you suggested as l've spent some time researching this today and l'm none the wiser. No disrespect to some of the senior members intended , it's just that l'm completely new to linux. Thanks for the replies so far. |
Re: Help needed with Bluetooth PAN problem
@tso: You are NOT using Diablo, are you? I cannot make it work under Diablo.
@sevep: Do not feel pressure to get it work. I tried for QUITE awhile and cannot get it work. Sure, output always proportional to input, maybe putting more effort to it will do :-). I am referring to BT PAN with winPC. I do not have a BT PAN phone, maybe that is different. bun |
Re: Help needed with Bluetooth PAN problem
Y es it did mention Diablo in the flash utility, so I assume that's what I got.
l've tried on and off since the launch of OS 2008 to get the mobile to connect via GPRS and gave up in the end. I discovered BT Pan on the older OS only last week so l'm prepared to give it a shot on this OS as it's opened up a whole new range of possibilities for me. Any other help gratefully received. BTW Is it possible to downgrade should I need to? The older version was OS2008 2.2007.551-3 |

gah, supposedly there is a 1.0.1 of maemo-pan out there, but the garage page only holds what looks like 1.0, and it cant tell if thats the same version is i have locally (filename says 1.0, but its timestamp is maybe 4 months newer then the one on garage). |

Re: Help needed with Bluetooth PAN problem
ah yes, 1.0.1 is available via extras.
also check that libicd-network-dummy is 0.12 as that one should have working dummy connections... installing maemo-pan 1.0.1 from extras should update libicd as well as its a defined dependency. now if all thats installed, and things are still not working, i got no clue what so ever... |
Re: Help needed with Bluetooth PAN problem
I've got my problem sorted now thanks.
If I've understood what I have read on the other threads concerning problems with BT pan and some Sony Ericsson phones (incapable of connecting via GPRS?), then the Pan 1.0.1 is essential if you have the latest up to date Diablo as this provides you with a DUMMY connection if you want a internet connection through these phones. Before I upgraded to Diablo I did not need a DUMMY connection to connect via BT Pan on my phone, previously I had connected to 'Bluetooth-Pan' My problem since downloading Diablo/BT Pan was that the DUMMY connection was listed at 'Connectivity Settings' > Connections > but the DUMMY connection was not available to select in the 'Select Connection' box making it impossible for the tablet to connect to Pan. (click wireless icon to view all these options) I'd suggest anyone else having this problem tries rebooting a couple of times after installing as thats eventually all I did - now I have an DUMMY connection listed next to my wireless access point in 'select connections' Thanks to all who have helped. |

Re: Help needed with Bluetooth PAN problem
Then i would say its very probable. Not that i am personally familiar with vodafone branded products, but i have the impression its not one of the brands that do the least amount of firmware fiddling...
