Re: Seqretary PIM Suite
two bugs on latest update:
1. cant find a volume setting for the alarm. 2. maxes volum on alarm play... make that 3, i cant locate the desktop applet, it seems to have no size... ah, i see, bug 2 is actually a feature. still, nice if that feature was optional... |
Re: Seqretary PIM Suite
I just read the change-log and wow, this calendar is really shaping up.
Can't wait to try it out tonight! Thanks for keeping up the great work. |

I'm eagerly awaiting reviews to see if it is time to abandon GPE (I can't spare the time to investigate myself). Many thanks to author. |
Re: Seqretary PIM Suite
I like the sound cutting off on dismissal, and playing my own mp3s :D Thanks!
Is there a way to set how many upcoming events the applet shows, like restricting it to just today, or the next 2, etc? |
Re: Seqretary PIM Suite
tso: Assuming that you have activated the desktop applet from the home menu, it will not display anything unless you have an event in the calendar within the next month. The only volume setting for the alarm is the one that causes the feature that sets the volume to the maximum to work even if the sound it muted. For my purposes if I have an alarm I want it to play as loud as possible - if the device is in my pocket the 80% volume that the system keeps setting on its own is too quiet if I'm on the street or on the train at the time. No issues making that an option if you're really sure you want alarms playing that you're less likely to hear, or with putting in an option to set the volume level that is forced.

Re: Seqretary PIM Suite
well i have no alarms that really need to be reacted to, so far. and i am of the opinion of it being better to have to many options then to few ;)
btw, a option to set a default alarm sound would be nice, so that one do not have to hunt for it each time one set an alarm ;) hmm, i see now that a playback test of a alarm sound do not properly replicate how it will play when using osso media server, as it seemed to go 100% volume... |
Re: Seqretary PIM Suite
something came to mind about alarm volume, how about making one able to set by time of day, or pr event (so that events one have in the middle of the day one can make louder then the ones that one expect while home).
still, i have not tested the ked alert. i am guessing it goes of even there is no sound, and works even on a n800. as the events i have are more like reminders that something wll be available from that day onwards, i guess the led alarm may be enough. oh, and what about a event list, like gpe calendar has? one can show the events for the next X number of hours/days/months/years (if practical)... heh, late night idle mind brainstorm... |
Re: Seqretary PIM Suite
Trollo I really like you application, thanks :)
If I may suggest you should consider these few additions to the home applet: 1) put a small triangle at the lower right corner to make possible to resize it without having to guess where the applet is OR colour the applet background to make it visible when no events are present 2) create a frame (like the rss feed applet) that makes possible to scroll the events' list (in this case you can ignore suggestion 1 :D) 3) this is a fix to be considered: when setting a full-day event the applet will ignore any other addition you make for the same date and show only the full-day event. Great work, already waiting for next release ;) |
Re: Seqretary PIM Suite
Finally got around to trying out the new release and I do believe that this application can become one of the better calendar tools out there for the NIT.
Feature requests: 1) Google Calendar sync. It doesn't matter if it's built-into the application or a stand-alone tool. 2) Day/Week view not working I could not get the setting of the start-hour and number of hours to work. It kept showing the days from 6am to 3pm even though I set it to '8am and for 10 hours'. Didn't work for me neither in day nor week view. 3) Navigating in week-view I find the dragging of the days on-top of the calendar to be a bit cumbersome and rather dislike it (sorry!). I often end up either accidentally selecting a day or scroll past the day I want. Also, if I want to see the previous week I want that week to be presented in the same week-format as I've chosen (with Sunday first, etc) and it's a little bit of a pain to get to that by dragging left and right. I'd love a "Next" and "Previous"-week button in the week-view that would bring up the next and previous week in the same week-view as you are in. THAT would speed up my week browsing a lot. 4) Entering values into preferences I for some reason had some issues entering numeric values into the preference settings. For instance in the 'start hour' field. I had to hold down the function key and press the numeric key. Shifting into Fn and then pressing the number key didn't take. Nor did just hitting the number key. Since this field only will allow numbers would it be possible to set the entry field so that just pressing the, say, number 8 key will generate an entry? 5) Font-size in week-view Would it be possible to set the font-size in the week view for the displayed events? Currently that size is, for me, a tad big and I'd love for it to be smaller so that I can read more of the event description in week-view. 6) Applet a) The applet seems to come activated but after having created some events I had to de-activate it and re-activate it in order for it to show the events. b) Add a small icon in the lower right of the applet so that it can be re-sized more easily c) Add a color and transparency option to it (as well as font size), d) Add an option for 'how far out in time' the applet should look for events to include on the home screen, d) Add an option to also show the date on the 'today' row as well as on any other date-rows instead of just "Today" and "Friday". e) Add an option to also display the end-time of the events display Thanks again for your work, looking good! |
Re: Seqretary PIM Suite
I've been using Seqretary for the last few days, and I must say I'm tremendously impressed. While other people may likely feel differently, the parts I particularly like are:
- Stylus-oriented operation. I don't like using my fingers anyway, but calendars need to fit a lot of information, and taking up screen space just to avoid taking out the stylus seems silly - Zoom-rocker as a view switcher. It just makes sense, and it's an excellent use of the hardware buttons. - Drag-to-select-time-range. Even with my finger, I can get fairly close, and when I find my stylus again (grr), I'm fairly certain it will work perfectly - LED notifications. Killer feature for me, as I'm often in class, but I wear my N810 on my belt where I can see it blink. Why don't more apps use the LED, anyway? :S A few suggestions: - I think the idea of dragging the header to move forward/backward is good in principle, but at the moment, it's not very useable. I don't really know what to suggest, aside from lowering the speed at which it scrolls through, but you may want to give some thought to that. Some sort of gesture to do that action would be good, but it needs work. - Add a default alarm tone, and/or a list of system sounds +browse button; while using an MP3 file as an alarm is a neat feature, sometimes you just want a normal alarm tone, and most users wouldn't know to look in /usr/share/sounds for that. - Change the colour of the LED (for the N810, that is). As I mentioned, so few apps make use of it, and even less actually flash something other than blue. Users should be able to tell the difference between an alarm and a new e-mail with a glance. - Increase the size of the up/down-box buttons by a little bit (what's that widget called, again?). Stylus-friendliness is a good thing, but those buttons are essentially impossible to activate with your finger[nail], and that's not a good thing. I think this suite is going in the right direction, and has a lot of potential. I hope the other apps (when they come) are as good as what you've done so far. I've been waiting for a good, featureful, hildonized PIM suite for a long time, and this is awesome - thanks! |
