Re: Seqretary PIM Suite

Help with localtime please... /etc/localtime shows me:

TZif GMT+7

I've set my time with the clock app to my city and timezone (I'm in Costa Rica, but using Denver, Colorado since we're on the same time zone). But /etc/localtime still shows +7, so when seqretary launches, it shows me as being 7 hours ahead of where it should be....

how do I set /etc/localtime to be the correct time zone for me??

Thanks.

/etc/localtime sould be a symbolic link. What does it link to? What does the control panel's "Date and Time" setting say?

/usr/localtime says it's linking to: /usr/share/zoneinfo/Etc/GMT+7

in Control Panel/Date and Time I have:

Home City: Denver, CO,USA
Date and time show my local time (which I set manually)

Is it just a matter of changing the symbolic link to point to:
/usr/share/zoneinfo/Etc/GMT-6 (this is the time zone I need)... if so, how do I do this?

Also, I was trying something and messed up /usr/timezone...it was pointing to: /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Helzinki is this needed? and why does it point to Helzinki???

Thank you so much for your help, I'm looking forward to using your app, it seems to be what I've been needing for my tablet.

Don't worry about /etc/timezone - very few apps use it these days. Europe/Helsinki is Nokia's head office time zone.
I don't know how you managed to get localtime pointing there - I don't think the Nokia control panel will ever do that since there is no city in the zone table with that time zone. Change it to point to /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Denver. I suspect once you do that (so that it's in sync with what the control panel thinks the zone should be) future changes to the zone will just work.

I noticed a small bug. When you click the preview button for the alarm sound, it doesn't stop until the sound finishes. Not bad for a short sound, but for a full song its kind of long.

Additional feature request:

Currently an event in the weekly view (or daily I guess) can only be edited or deleted (when clicked on).
I wish one could see the whole event (title+location+description) in a window on that screen when you clicked or pressed on the event :)

Re: Seqretary PIM Suite

tried out the latest version tonight and some good and some bad.

thanks for the little icon on the applet - works great.
the numeric field change was also great.

but...the date list that appears when dragging ontop in week view is really bad i think.

so far the only really bad UI experience is the scrolling in week view. its close to unusable for me.

i would love to just be able to with one click show the next or past week. no scrolling at all. having a static view (always having sunday as start day makes it ao much faster to orient yourself)

also, id love it if the sat and sunday columns, in week view, would have a different color than yelllow.

great app

I don't like the popup menus either, but one of the purposes of betas is to try out different things to see what works. Since there were multiple people saying the old dragging interface for the date bar was no good (and frankly, I didn't like that one either), this was the next thing to try. I have some other ideas too but at this stage anything that's not trivial will be deferred until after the contacts app.

Of more concern in this beta for me is this: Did the update of the home applet work without causing the desktop to shut down and restart? Did the icon in the bottom right hand corner just appear, or did you have to turn off the applet and then turn it on again?

I can understand that and appreciate your work of course. I would though love to see a week-to-week switch without a drag or day selector as soon as you may get to it :-)

The update did not cause the tablet to restart. I myself did turn off the table and turn it back on again as I didn't see the corner-icon right away. I MAY not have looked closely enough - all I can say is that after the restart it was there and was working great.

The popup menus are definitely more usable than the previous method, and if that's how it stays, I won't complain, but they don't quite "fit in" with the other, really slick interaction methods (e.g. drag-to-create events, and the goto-today gesture). If I think of anything better, I'll let you know. The new number choosers are much better too - thanks! As for your last comment there, I'm all for it; the Calendar app is already more than good enough for daily use, and if it's any indication of the direction that Seqretary is going, and its quality, then I'd like to see the rest of the suite.

I didn't have an issue, but IIRC I had disabled the old version of the applet, and the update re-enabled it. That, I should point out, is probably not the best default behaviour. Maybe a first-run "did you know" popup would be better, so the user knows that the applet is available, without it just appearing on their home screen.

Also, as a side note, this is the sort of thing I love about FOSS: I made a couple of suggestions a week and a half ago, and there they were staring at me in the changelog tonight. Thanks for taking the time to listen to your users. :D
