install debian lenny arm or armel apps?

adding an respository somehow seems tricky...
could i just install http://packages.debian.org/source/lenny/fcitx
via wget, and compile it?
i understand the n810 runs an arm cpu. should i choose the arm or the new armel branch & do i risk borking my box??
