palm pre files hacked, port to tablet?
 

I wonder if some enterprising person can hack the required files and get the Pre software to run (chrooted?) on the tablet?

Nah, I don't think with multitouch and a smaller screen, it is not going to work. It is not like Android which was built for many devices and open source.
