Heheh.. very cool. Are you running any Linux OS distributions on your desktop/laptop?

Nope, just the Linux version I can see on my N810.
Low on diskspace on my laptop otherwise I'd consider partitioning off a slice and put Linux on that :)

You can still burn a copy onto a CD and use a Live CD environment (that means you just boot the CD into a desktop without ever installing Linux on your computer) or you can install it onto a USB flash drive and boot off of that. :)

...but this is wildly off-topic. Private message me if you want more details or want to talk about it. :) Congrats, though!

Same here. Players like Canola are pretty and all, but waiting so long to start, forcing me to rescan for covers, and most importantly, not remembering where I was when I quit, make them pretty useless.

In addition to shuffle and loop, what I'd really like to see is some color on the pause/play button so I can find it more easily when I'm driving. Next, and much lower, would be a2dp support.

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

So far.. I've been sticking to this new 0.3-pre0.4-2 version and it's been GREAT! The new features are MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH appreciated. I'm not sure I see a reason why it can't be pushed out even as-is, despite the things I'd pointed out. :)

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

This app gets better and better! I've used 0.3-pre0.4 for several days now and it works perfectly (for some reason, it took 2 runs of the apt-get sequence before it would complete and allow the deb to install). Very clever long-skip button functionality. Minor request: a sleep switch-off timer (although it's easy to workaround with a script). Many thanks to the developers!

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

I am also using 0.3-pre0.4 all the time as well. I have finally retired my Palm Zire! ( I agree with a previous poster that darker pause button would help ). Great program.

Does this version of panucci support a2dp?

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Excellent!
Thanks Dan. That was really useful. I don't like 'typing' much on the nokia & I'd much rather do it on the PC, so that was great.
The only thing that stumped me was the nokia doesn't have wget - at least on mine. (I use ssh to get root access - maybe dropbear etc gives you wget).

Anyway, I got around that by wgetting it on the PC then scp'ing it over
(scp panucci_0.3~pre0.4-2_all.deb root@192.168.y.x:/media/mmc2/apps for anyone else).
Thanks again.

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Don't know if this has been pointed out yet but..

When you add directories you can only add one level. For example, if my folders are setup as

/gpodder/podcasta
/gpodder/podcastb
/gpodder/podcastc

If using add directory I can only add a directory like

/gpodder/podcasta

If I try

/gpodder/

It won't detect the sub folders with those podcasts.

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Thanks Nikosapi. This is nice. :D Heres some feedback - btw, would you rather have feedback here or in the bug reports section?

These are against 0.3-pre0.4-2
Bugs:

* Mute no longer works.

* In the Playlist Item details screen the filename is truncated for long paths. Could this put on 2 lines?

* The Custom title in the playlist can be changed, but the custom title & title on the info tab always seem to be the same! Seems a bit pointless. Perhaps one of thes could be removed - that would give space for the filename to cover 2 lines.

* The info Image field shows a hex character if there is an image. Is this just for debugging? It's not very informative.

Suggestions

* The playlist add directory shouldn't show empty directories. Better still, put the number of audio fies at the left of directory name (at the left since the filename may be long)

* Save current playlist should be renamed to 'Save current playlist As'. My rationale is that there's no reason to use it unless you want to Save a specific list since the current playlist will be autosaved on close or change anyway, which is really nice.

* I like the player/playlist organisation but I personally think the extra space taken up by the new tabs wastes space. After all, I can get to the playlist/bookmarks with a long press of the bookmark button - great functionality btw. Also, since the current playing item is highlighted, another press in the same physical location (=Jump to button) will restart the player. ie. repeated (long) pressing on the bookmarks location should toggle between playlist and player anyway. So my suggestion is to remove the tabs if dual action buttons is enabled.

Thanks again for the update. Hope this helps improve things even further.

PS - Does (should?) hardware decoding save battery life?

It's been a LOOOOOONG time since anything new came out in the 0.4 pre releases. I honestly don't really want to go back and use 0.3 anymore. (The new features that recently went into the 0.3 don't make up for the playlist tab in 0.4 and the functioning dpad play/pause button, to me. Sorry.).

I've been increasingly annoyed when I keep getting told to upgrade panucci whenever other updates comes along and wondered if there was any any idea when 0.04 will be released. It's great as-is, even with the bugs its currently has, and there's really no good reason for going back to the 0.3 line.

Anyway.. any idea of when to expect a 0.4 package would really be appreciated. :)

Thanks!

Sorry 'bout ignoring Panucci, my ADD got the best of me this summer :P

Anyway, I made up a package for the 0.4 release which can be found at our garage downloads page. There isn't anything new in there except for a small scrolling labels bugfix; but at least you won't be pestered to downgrade from now on. I won't push this to Maemo Extras because I don't think it's polished enough, and the version in extras has a feature or two that haven't been implemented in the current version.

I'm going to get started working on 0.5 now and will try to address all the issues reported by everyone in this thread.

Thanks for sticking around,

nick

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Excellent. Thanks for that. I was finding the update reminder a bit annoying (especially the first couple of times I accepted the 'upgrade') and had to reinstall it again.:o

One minor thing to consider for 0.5, I find the buttons in the playlist window a tad thin - it always takes me several attempts to select any of them with my (fat?) fingers when I'm using it on the go. If you could increase the height of the Add File etc buttons by about 50% that would be nice.

I know you and Thomas are working on gpodder integration so we can delete listened podcasts from within panucci. I must say I'm really looking forward to that as I currently have to navigate to each episode twice - once to listen then again in file manager to delete it.:(
Best regards.

But you can delete them directly in gpodder. That's what I always use.

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Apparently it doesn't auto-remember the playing position on exit in the new version. Is there a way to re-enable that?

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

I'm currently running v 0.3.9 on Maemo 5 (n900), but it looks like this testing version has some features which I would like to test out (am aware of all the caveats re installing test software ... ) - is it possible to install it on fremantle??

Also, f I install the .deb from the garage that will give me an updated (but "testing" version)... If I then unistall I assume I'll be able to go back to the 0.3.9 version from the repos?

If you can't checkout the 0.4 release from Git and run it from source, please don't use 0.4 until it's officially released as packages. The .debs from Garage are built for Diablo (Maemo 4/N8x0) and are not in any way tested with or built for Fremantle (Maemo 5/N900). Even if you get it to work, the UI will at best look horrible and at worst not work at all. Use the 0.3.9 series in Extras for the best experience.

You can find the source at http://nikosapi.org/git/panucci/.

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

I was hoping that 0.4 or 0.5 for Diablo would hit Extras at some point, but no such luck. 0.4 is apparently only installable manually from here and you need to resolve the dependencies yourself. I was trying to think of a way to do this without gaining root. I tried to manually install these packages by opening them in the Application Manager:

http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p....6-4_armel.deb
http://repository.maemo.org/extras/p....5-9_armel.deb

... but when I did, it said they were incompatible packages. :(

So I ended up installing sudser and prepended "sudo" to the apt-get command listed here.

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Wow, reading through that I am going to try and upgrade from 0.3 to 0.4.
And yes, I also wish that this would make it to Extras one day.
If development is dead...could someone with some development skills please take over this and see what can be done to move along 0.4? :)

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Panucci 0.9-alpha0 is now available on Maemo 5 Extras-Devel:

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...ci/0.9-alpha0/

This new version is based on the 0.4 codebase. A package for Maemo 4 (Diablo) will follow with the final release of the new version. Please help testing this package, and report any bugs you find.

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Thanks for the new version!

Just installed and found the following:

- wont load from desktop or from within menu.. appears to load but then fails
- will load from terminal - but gives error message:
/opt/panucci/lib/panucci main.py:1102: Gtkwarning: gtk_tree_view_get_path_at_pos: assertion 'tree_view->priv->bin_window ! = NULL' failed
path_info = self.treeview.get_path_at_pos(0,0)
Can then add files individually or by folder - although intially says no files found in folder and then adds them.

Using PR1.2 - let me know if you need any other info

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

I encountered the same situation today. Worked ok yesterday but today it won't load from desktop but starts and play ok from gPodder. Reverted back to version 0.3.17 and it works well.

gs1 2010-06-14 11:02

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Same here but it launches from the terminal and seems to work well thereafter. Splitting the playlist out is a huge improvement- just feels much more intuitive somehow and I love the ability to add whole directories again, now with finger-friendly buttons. Finger - scrolling the playlist would be great and I kinda enjoyed the portrait mode (though usually ended up in landscape). Thanks for your continued development of this really useful app.

Some screenshots of the new version would be lovely, for those of us too scared to try -devel software.

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

I installed it, had to launch from the x-terminal, didn't really liked it and went back to the old version. The new version of Panucci did, however, mess something up with nQaap that I use for audiobooks. It is now impossible to start that program. Does anyone here know what this new version of Panucci possibly can have messed up?

hece35 2010-06-15 16:26

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

In addition, the BT headset controls do not work with this 0.9alpha0. They work well in 0.3.17. This is a very essential feature of panucci for me. I love the possibility to skip 10 secs with headset previous/next buttons.

silvermountain 2010-06-15 19:42

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

Excellent step in the right direction.

With the addition of directories that will eventually allow me to get rid of nQaap which I really, unfortunately dislikes a lot.

But yes, the same issues as above of course - can only launch from the terminal.

Thanks(!) for continuing to work on this great application and to allow it to also be a tool for audiobooks!

Patola 2010-06-15 20:04

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

When I try to run it from the menu, it fails to load, although it appears to do so (the program title appears and the little wheel keeps spinning), but if I run it from the command-line via ssh (/usr/bin/panucci) it works.

I found out by editting /usr/share/applications/hildon/panucci.desktop that if I comment out the line "X-Osso-Service=org.panucci.pannuciInterface" it works. It seems a dbus problem thus.

After edititing it now starts. But I cannot see any menue to access a file in a folder. Currently I have to type in a command like:

panucci /path/to/the/file.extension

Does someone have a workaround for this?

Or instead you could change the line to "X-Osso-Service=org.panucci.panucciInterface", which works too. (it seems like a typing problem :D )

kyros 2010-06-21 12:55

Re: Panucci 0.4 Testing

OK, Thanx a lot:
In /usr/share/applications/hildon/panucci.desktop I changed:

X-Osso-Service=org.panucci.pannucciInterface

to

X-Osso-Service=org.panucci.panucciInterface

Now the application starts when I click on the desktop item.

I recognized that the way to open a file/folder has now moved to the playlist-menue. I would prefere a more direct way to access a media file from the main user interface.
