Looking for an applet to put a 'notes-launcher/window' on the homescreen

Not sure how to explain this but here we go...
I take a lot of small notes, directions, instructions, you name.

I like the note taking on the N810 a lot and have been using it quite a bit.

Is there anyway to put your notes on your home screen?
Think: In the same way as your documents show if they are stored on your PC's desktop (running Windows).

I assume that things that goes onto the home screen has to be an applet - SO - is there an applet that:
- Created a window on your screen,
- Allows you to set a directory
- Lists the names of the documents in that directory on the screen on your homepage
- Allows you to scroll through those documents and click on one to launch it
- The ability to have them sorted in chronological order.

Is it even possible?
If so....this ability would be awesome for people like me that frequently look up notes and now could browse and launch them directly from an applet :)

Yeah I looked at Personal Launcher but that's not quite what I was after. I seems like Personal Launcher replaces the home screen with icons of apps/things you can launch. While that is cool what I'd really want is an applet window (looking like the RSS reader) listing the documents and running on the same home screen where I got my weather, etc.

AFAIK, there is not such an applet ... It would be nice though !

Un27Pee,
No, it's not what he asked for. I use it everyday.
Yellow note is just like a small yellow note where you can write some words on the screen, it doesnt show notefiles that you can open directly.

SilverMountain,
I know, it's a different thing but if you use notes a lot, i warmly recommand you MAEMOPAD+ , you can use it to store and class notes with text, lists, drawings with all the hierarchy you may want ... it's really my second brain !

Re: Looking for an abilty to put notes on the homescreen

@un27pee, thanks for the suggestion on Yellow Notes - that's actually a very neat application. It's on my main page now and I actually used it three times today and was very happy to have it there as a remember-to-do-go-to note that is constantly in your face. Thanks again.

My original 'request' still stands though as I think it would be awesome to have a direct 'window' into a note-directory from your main screen... :)

The Nokia tablet is truly an amazing device..I love how versatile it is.

I use Yellow Notes for any reminders I need. A home screen reader for Conboy or Quick Clip would be the best option I guess.

A automatic scrolling reader that you can target to a specific set of notes in either app would be very useful.

Personally I'd be happy with just a file-manager looking interface-applet pre-set to a directory where the notes are.

The problem with that is, that filenames of notes might not be really useful. For example, in the case of Conboy the filenames look like this: bc154b01-0211-48ab-9479-538a92ede6d9.note

An applet for Conboy is planned, but I'm still busy with Conboy to Snowy synchronization stuff. If anyone wants to help out, I'm definitively interested in new project members :)

That would be a useful home screen applet for quite a few purposes, not just notes. E.g. a folder view of some favourite tunes, or images, or spreadsheets, for example. Of course, as conny points out, it would only make sense when filenames are usable, so conboy would need a specific applet written for it.

Since Maemo can multi-task, you could always leave the File Manager open. I personally, have it as one of my Personal Launcher apps (as mentioned). At least you're only a couple clicks away at that point.

Re: Looking for an abilty to put notes on the homescreen

I know there is nothing as yet as to what you (the parent) are asking for.

Yellow Notes is just for jotting, it wont even store in multiple files. Essentially you want a file manager applet.

But on a different note - Liqbase does allow you to handwrite notes and then it stores them (within liqbase interface) as a list of "files" sorted by date. So you can scroll down the list of notes by dates and select one and open it again.

But again this is all part of the liqbase application itself. You need to start liqbase to be able to see the stored notes.

Re: Looking for an abilty to put notes on the homescreen

I generate an RSS feed from a Tracks server I have running at home.

http://getontracks.org

I enter items using Tear.

Once a week I have a cron job that prints out the master todolist.txt

I use

sed G todolist.txt

to doublespace it before printing.

I keep it in my back pocket as a backup when the n800 battery dies (which is frequently!)

Re: Looking for an abilty to put notes on the homescreen

Fwiw, I just made something that comes close with the Web Shortcut app that can be put on the desktop.

I put something like file://*.* in the settings for that applet and I get a list of all directories that can be pointed and clicked, and files can be read by the browser.

Try it; you'll see what I mean. I may use it myself.

instead of yellownote, we can use xournal with personal launcher.

add a command like: xournal /media/mmc2/mynote.xoj

just one click will get you there; but it is just one note!
