Next gen NIT wishlist
 

Haven't really seen anything about the next generation of NIT and was just wondering what it could potentially have, especially after reading all of the impressive specs of the iPhone 3Gs and the Palm Pre.

screen - I'd prefer a slightly larger screen than the current NIT and small sizes of the Pre and iPhone.
Arm Cortex A8 (A9 once available) - the OMAP 2420 is so aged compared to the current selection.
Accelerometer
multi-touch
native microsdhc
working flash with better camera/webcam
battery charging through micro-usb port
size - it would be nice if current techology could allow for the non-screen area of the NIT to be smaller and the whole device to be a tad thinner.

Am I asking for too much? I don't think this is completely a unattainable device. Am I missing anything? Have there been any leaks of the successor to the N810?

Keep the same physical dimension of N810, about 5.04 in x 2.75 in, but increase screen size to do away with the borders, that will give a screen size of 5.5 in, my dream form factor...it is NOT going to happen :( , that is why I called it 'dream' form factor :)

Although this topic has already been done, nokia themselves have not reveal any successor to the nit. Last i remember, the maemo lead device may just be a phone ala n97ish. not exactly a nit successor.

If you do want to suggest real wishes, please go to the new Maemo Brainstorm and do it there.

I want another row of keys so i don't have to use the function key as much I would like a nordic wireless chip for sports equipment and home automation

I agree, a phone makes it far more expensive (see iPod Touch vs. iPhone, $300 price diff for only a GSM/3G chip) and tempting for a single operator to rip you further off with a 2 year exclusive contract.

More wishes:
- screen size at least 4.1", preferebly 5" and no beveled edges which makes touching near the edges easier.
- better a 4 rows keyboard
- better handwriting recognition
- faster processor and more memory

I know, the last wish costs more battery power, but why not a 'boost / turbo' mode which is only enabled on short processor intensive jobs, such as ' step to 1GHz and enable 1GiB internal memory' for a while and then revert to, say, 500 MHz and 256MB.
They can better leave out a camera as a camera of this size does not zoom and can only take reasonable photos in full daylight as the sensor is way too small (unless you make the device at least 2.5 cm thick....). A GPS they can also leave out unless it is MUCH better like in most modern BT GPS devices.

This might be hard to implement with the tablet being a touch screen and all but I'm thinkin', it would make the perfect coffee warmer or mini hot plate...

I imagine they would have to put some kind of warning message on it reminding us to turn it off before finger scrolling and what not but it should be do-able.

Start it up and an animated graphic of an electric (or even gas) stove could come on... Maybe you could select red-hot coil or blue flames.

Seriously I am now tiring of the new NIT suibject totally - and am getting intot he mode where I am thinking I will not buy any new technology for a year or so - just to get away from the "latest and the best" mind fatigue.
