Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Oh, I understand you now. Okay, yes, for RTCOMM, you'd have to edit the hosts file, but don't delete the 127.0.0.1 entry. That'd lead to some nasty problems down the road. I don't know what IP that pager server uses, but I'm sure munkey261 can post it later on when he posts again.
When and if he gives you that info (if you don't want to use Pidgin), then you'd need root access in X-Term before you can edit the file. A good ext editor, as mentioned in other page, is leafpad. I finally figured out how to work with it (durr to me) and it's pretty easy. If you do decide to go this route for getting RTCOMM working with Yahoo! and you get the IP you need from munkey, do this: 1.) Go here "Gain root access" and follow the instructions. Best option is rootsh 2.) Go to the Application Manager (or OS2008 Downloads page) and get Leafpad. 3.) In X-Term, type root to gain root access and then type this out: Code:
leafpad "/etc/hosts"Start up RTCOMM and try it out! Jesse~ |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
I dont know the IP , since I dont use rtcomm for yahoo Im not sure what to do...but in pidgin all I did was paste "cn.scs.msg.yahoo.com" (without quotes) into the pager sever field...I just found that one a couple hours ago and it's still working. And as far as editing the hosts file is concerned the absolute easiest way is to have emelfm2 installed and have it launch with root privileges and use its built in editor.

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
I have EmelFM2 installed and it always asks how to open it, "Open..." or "Close" after clicking the hosts file. Besides, using a simple command to open up the hosts file using Leafpad is easier than having to navigate, double-click and then try to do it that way.
Anyway, either way you choose. Linux is about choice and I love it. Also, ashame you can't find the IP for it. How did you find the pager server address? Jesse~ |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Nevermind! I got it to work with the beta of RTCOMM using hosts file!
Put this in your hosts file (working as of 12:09AM GMT-7): Code:
202.43.216.31 scs.msg.yahoo.comJesse~ |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
I just googled "pidgin not working with yahoo" and clicked links to blog posts till I found one that worked...was from an Ubuntu forum I think...I bookmarked it in case it (and since in all likelyhood it will) goes down again.
