Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Oh, I understand you now. Okay, yes, for RTCOMM, you'd have to edit the hosts file, but don't delete the 127.0.0.1 entry. That'd lead to some nasty problems down the road. I don't know what IP that pager server uses, but I'm sure munkey261 can post it later on when he posts again.
When and if he gives you that info (if you don't want to use Pidgin), then you'd need root access in X-Term before you can edit the file. A good ext editor, as mentioned in other page, is leafpad. I finally figured out how to work with it (durr to me) and it's pretty easy. If you do decide to go this route for getting RTCOMM working with Yahoo! and you get the IP you need from munkey, do this: 1.) Go here "Gain root access" and follow the instructions. Best option is rootsh 2.) Go to the Application Manager (or OS2008 Downloads page) and get Leafpad. 3.) In X-Term, type root to gain root access and then type this out: Code:
leafpad "/etc/hosts"Start up RTCOMM and try it out! Jesse~ |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
I dont know the IP , since I dont use rtcomm for yahoo Im not sure what to do...but in pidgin all I did was paste "cn.scs.msg.yahoo.com" (without quotes) into the pager sever field...I just found that one a couple hours ago and it's still working. And as far as editing the hosts file is concerned the absolute easiest way is to have emelfm2 installed and have it launch with root privileges and use its built in editor.

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
I have EmelFM2 installed and it always asks how to open it, "Open..." or "Close" after clicking the hosts file. Besides, using a simple command to open up the hosts file using Leafpad is easier than having to navigate, double-click and then try to do it that way.
Anyway, either way you choose. Linux is about choice and I love it. Also, ashame you can't find the IP for it. How did you find the pager server address? Jesse~ |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Nevermind! I got it to work with the beta of RTCOMM using hosts file!
Put this in your hosts file (working as of 12:09AM GMT-7): Code:
202.43.216.31 scs.msg.yahoo.comJesse~ |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
I just googled "pidgin not working with yahoo" and clicked links to blog posts till I found one that worked...was from an Ubuntu forum I think...I bookmarked it in case it (and since in all likelyhood it will) goes down again.

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
hi..
pidgin 2.5.8 is in extras-devel repo now.. |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
What has been changed in the new version?
|
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Some changes in the proprietary protocols (ICQ and Yahoo if I remember correctly).
|
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
So, this fixes the issue with connecting to yahoo...where we had to switch to useing the cn.scs server to get it to connect?
|
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Stupid question here but when searching the forums I came up with nothing.
What is the correct size for the icon display of your personal avatar under Pidgin? Is it 32x32, sizeable, or something else? Thanks. |

because updating pidgin from the AppManager, doesn't mean automaticaly update the libpurple0 package |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
What do I need to do to update the libpurple0 to the lastest version?
|
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem

First to do, enable extras-devel repo in AppManager. Next, if you already have pidgin installed on your device, uninstall it. It should also uninstall the old version of libpurple0. After uninstall, install the new version of pidgin, which automatically install the new version of libpurple0. Or, if you want to update it using apt-get, you can do it from xterm by typing command: apt-get install libpurple0 |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Hey coredumb.
Where do I find libpurple0 2.5.8? I used gronmayer.com but the latest it can find is 2.5.0. Any thoughts? OOoooops. You had just beaten me to my question. So, ignore my question and thank you for the information. |
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
How can we know the version of libpurple and pidgin installed on our N810?
|
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
You can enable red pill mode and enter the app manager. Look at installed applications and you should see libpurple0 installed. The updated version of libpurple0 is in extras-devel thanks to the fine guys at Collabora.

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
I seem to have a new problem with pidgin....the last couple days it has been just randomly shutting down and when I try to open it back up it opens for a second, then shuts down again. I deleted my accounts.xml file and re-entered my account info but it still does this, without any reason it seems. I havent installed anything new, and I even completely uninstalled and reinstalled. And it still happens.

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
What version do you have on there? On my N810 I had the newer version with "jonny" in the version....After my reinstall I uninstalled again, deleted every pidgin folder using emelfm2, then reinstalled the older version and everything seems fine so far-

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
I have Pidgin 2.6.1 on my Linux PC and it has the same issue from time to time. I don't use Pidgin on my tablet... so it's very likely not a tablet-specific issue.
|
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Are you using the "cn" server for your linux pc version to connect? Or are the protocol changes not an issue on the desktop version?

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
cn.scs.yahoo.... what we had to set pidgin to use to get it to connect on the tablet. I didnt word my question about the protocol changes right...I know it would affect the desktop version as well, just didnt know if the desktop version had been updated to include the changes.

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
With that updated version of libpurple0, you don't need to deal with changing the Yahoo server at all. I've got Yahoo working perfectly fine through RTCOMM with no tweaking needed.

Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Asof tonight yahoo is no longer working for me.
|
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Still not working .......
|
Re: Pidgin And RTComm Problem
Same problem here. I can't get connected to the Yahoo! service. Anyone find any solutions? I'm using RTCOMM.
