Issues with Bluemaemo

I have two major issues with Bluemaemo that I would really like to see resolved (if they haven't been already).

For starters it's important to note that I have a N810 running Diablo and a pc runny the latest Ubuntu Jaunty.

1. In order to run bluemaemo I have to type this code in to the ubuntu box first: hidd --connect **:**:**.**:**:** (mac address) as root. I'd really like to just be able to start bluemaemo and it'll connect to the hidd in my computer on it's own.

2. Let me just start by saying I think fixing No. 1 would probably fix No. 2. After 15 minutes it disconnects.

I have these issues because I use my computer as a tv and movie watching device. What is the point of a remote that you have to sit near the computer to use??? Anyway, I appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Doesn't anybody have any answers for these issues?

You only need to do this one time (and you can use a graphical tool that don't need root), in order to connect to you PC you just need to select "reconnect" in the bluemaemo initial menu, or even you can select the auto-connect option in the settings menu, this option will allow to auto-connect to a specific address when you start BlueMaemo without any user intervention.

This is not BlueMaemo fault, if there is no activity the PC drops the connection after a certain timeframe.

Re: Issues with Bluemaemo

Yeah I have this issue as well. I think #1 comes down to bluetooth security/authentication - in Linux especially all forms of security are taken seriously. It's a bit more lax in Windows. It also has to do with pairing - sometimes my bluetooth mouse is recognized (particularly if it's already on at boot) other times I must run # hidd --connect. The behavior on the tablet in my experience is that it thinks it has reconnected but the other computer hasn't gotten the message (or actively refused the connection). Not sure if it disconnects after 15 as I tend to use it as needed with GIMP or photoshop and it goes idle when I'm not using it (killing bluetooth connections). Perhaps there is a daemon available to accept auto-accept trusted bluetooth connections - blueman is working pretty well for me but maybe someone would be willing to write something better.

In the meantime when it disconnects you can (and should) setup a VNC server on the host machine and just quickly open vncviewer on the tablet and reconnect. Or and you seem to be running Linux on the target machine, ssh into it. It's not ideal but it's wireless and doesn't require too much messing around.

The solution that I provided above works pretty fine for me, I've tested in several machines and OS's, of course if your device is not trusted in the PC side, the PC will refuse (or ask) the connection, but this is the normal behaviour for any bluetooth peripheral.

Re: Issues with Bluemaemo

That doesn't work with Ubuntu 9.04 w/ either bluez nor blueman. And yes the tablet is trusted:

And yes I acknowledge it is NOT the fault of bluemaemo.

EDIT: I'll go ahead and test on a few other distros and computers I have lying around tomorrow. I'll also test with Windows and BSD if I have the time.

Ah, I think I know the problem, this is a well known BlueZ bug.

Try this:

1 - In gnome-bluetooth select "always visible" and remove the tablet;
2 - Pair the tablet again;
3 - Connect the tablet with the HIDD command;
4 - Try to reconnect;

This works for me, I forgot this issue sorry :(

Nada. No reconnect. And using blueman I noticed that when the tablet tries to connect the computer it sends a signal and the computer allows the tablet in, but then the connection gets cut.

It's like this will only work when the computer initiats the tablet, not vice versa. Weird.

Re: Issues with Bluemaemo

Hi:

I can't connect with Bluemaemo in Kubuntu 9.04

Everytime I try hidd -connect I get the message: Can't get device information: Host is down.

What can I try?

(I don't know how to delete the paired device in KBluetooth4 too, I have tried more than once).

Re: Issues with Bluemaemo

Instructions on how I connect.

first start bluemaemo on the tablet and select new (open) (I don't remember) connection.

Then open a terminal and type

sudo hidd --connect <type your tablets bluetooth mac address here>

Your tablet will connect and you will be able to use it. Enjoy!

P.S. to find your tablets mac address type

hcitool scan

Now enjoy!!!

BlueMaemo is in the "waiting for connection" screen ?
The correct command is "hidd --connect" and not "hidd -connect".

Thanks.

That worked.

In fact Im writing this from the laptop using the N810 as remote control.

It makes me remember that quote from Arthur C. Clark: 'Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic'.

Thanks again for this magical piece of technology.

Alberto.

Anybody else find that sometimes when you hit a letter key, it types it again and again and again, as if you were holding it down?

The intention is to work like a regular keyboard (repeat key), maybe your are holding it down for a while, or have the repeat rate definition too high (configuration in the pc side).

This is an excellent piece of programming!

One question, though. The "Gamepad" button (second row, third column) doesn't do anything on my installation. SHould it?

Regards
Tim

No, it's for a PS3 profile, not implemented yet:D.
