Easy Way to install screen rotation on nokia n810 anyone can do it
If you're running Diablo, click this: http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/sliderotate-diablo.install
If you're running Chinook, click this: http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/rotate.install Then install the respitory rotate, then after it downloads than click on find/search on the apps manager and type rotate. install plugin for rotate and then go to screen rotate settings, at the bottom of screen rotate settings. click on (re)install xandar support. it will tell you that it is already installed and if you install it the device will automaticlly reboot and to close all apps. reboot and you're done. credits go to: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...creen+rotation |

Re: Easy Way to install screen rotation on nokia n810 anyone can do it
ok download and install rotate, than the application manager will pop up. it will ask you to install rotate. install it and add the respotory rotate. once you do that, let the application manager finish updating, once it is updated, click on the find button, which is the binocular and it will ask you to search, type in rotate and status bar plugin for rotate will come up. install it and it will ask you to make some settings on the slide rotate settings, open it and at the bottom, it will show (re)install xandar support, click ok on it and you must have an internet connection and must have all apps running closed. once you do that, click ok and wait. it can take up to 20 minutes. once it downloads and installs DO NOT CLOSE THE SLIDE ROTATE SETTINGS AFTER YOU PRESS OK, it will automaticly reboot and you are done

Re: Easy Way to install screen rotation on nokia n810 anyone can do it
Newbie here. I have not been able to follow these steps.
Here is what I did so far: 1. First, from an SSH connection I did this: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Nokia-N810-43-7:/media/mmc2# mkdir Packages Nokia-N810-43-7:/media/mmc2# cd Packages/ Nokia-N810-43-7:/media/mmc2/Packages# wget http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/sliderotate-diablo.install --07:07:19-- http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/sliderotate-diablo.install => `sliderotate-diablo.install' Resolving mikie.dy.fi... 85.23.64.42 Connecting to mikie.dy.fi|85.23.64.42|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK Length: 255 [application/x-install-instructions] 07:07:22 (1.14 MB/s) - `sliderotate-diablo.install' saved [255/255] Nokia-N810-43-7:/media/mmc2/Packages# ls sliderotate-diablo.install 2. Then on the N810 I did these steps: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Open Application manager. From the top menu, select: Application > Install from file I browsed to /media/mmc2/Packages/sliderotate-diablo.install I accepted all defaults (clicked "OK" button). Got a message that sliderotate was successfully installed. I saw a dialog box with message: close app manager and run Sliderotatesettings in extras and press (re)install xrandr-kernel Not sure how to proceed. How do I "run" Sliderotatesettings? Where is it? It says run it in "extras". Is that a directory? If so, I don't find it. EDIT: Application Manager now shows that both rotate-sb-plugin and sliderotate are installed. I'm still unsure how to run Sliderotatesettings. It did not automatically come up for me. I'm stuck. Appreciate any help. I've only had the N810 for 1 day. EDIT: the instructions here (http://sse2.net/rotate/) seem more clear to me. Are they current? Should I start over and follow those steps? If so, do I need to uninstall sliderotate? EDIT (again): OK, I got everything installed and set up correctly. The only problem now is that all the pages (PDF's, web pages, etc.) do not fit well on the screen when it is rotated. For example, I can no longer go to the next pages of PDF documents by tapping the right side of the screen. Apparently the activation area is too far too the right (off the screen). Tapping on the left side still brings up the previous page. Basically, I cannot read PDFs in portrait mode, and this is the real reason I wanted the rotate feature. What are the options to resolve this? Thanks |

Ladies and Gents, my suggestion is that you use the instructions on the wiki:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Rotation I think sliderotate may not have been updated to latest OS version. |

Re: Easy Way to install screen rotation on nokia n810 anyone can do it
I have decided to remove the screen rotation feature. What is the right way to do this? I hope I do not need to flash my tablet. Thanks.

This ^ needs to be emphasized and should be read first by anyone thinking about following the instructions in the first post of this thread. :) EDIT: Through the use of editing the reasons that prompted this/my post are now not as apparent. The sentiment however, remains... Starting a new thread to repost information that can already be found in this forum not only creates pollution, it dilutes the effectiveness of future searches and may misdirect viewers to threads that may not be factually correct. These new threads do not provide support because they may not be monitored by the people who posted the original information and have actual knowledge of the subject. I do not think we should encourage new threads in the "general" forum that basically say "Hey, I successfully installed something on my device following instructions I found on this forum.", unless we expect everyone else to do so. BTW, Good News! I just got a great deal on my car insurance. :) |
Re: Easy Way to install screen rotation on nokia n810 anyone can do it
Man the fire hoses!
Okay guys, enough. JayOnThaBeat, I can totally understand where you're coming from and this thread does look like what you said it does, but he's offering help to new people that don't know about it and usually don't search for that information. You know how new people to forums can be. @gokuman56, me and others appreciate that fact that you've reposted this info, but it'd be nice if you told everyone where you got this info. Simply saying it as if you came up with it originally is really not good. Besides, if you're new, your "advanced" knowledge will get people to start asking for your advice on many other topics you may not know about and I'm sure you don't want that. Perhaps link to the source info that you found and credit the individual. That would be nice. :) EDIT: gokuman56, way to go. Glad you edited your initial post! :D Jesse~ |
Re: Easy Way to install screen rotation on nokia n810 anyone can do it
Holy cow!!!
All I have to say is that I greatly appreciated Gokuman's thread. In my opinion, anyone that gives him a hard time is way out of line. I searched and found a bunch of related posts, but Gokuman's was clear and to the point and it allowed me to get started while the other threads left me unsure if I had the latest or complete info. It does not matter if Gokuman learned the info somewhere else. He summarized it and organized it in a helpful way. Gokuman, thank you very much! I'd like to suggest that the philosophy of the Ubuntu forums is proving itself to be worthy of emulating. EDIT: adding the credit/link to the first post is indeed helpful because the link offers a bunch of detail that I had not found in my prior searches. |
Re: Easy Way to install screen rotation on nokia n810 anyone can do it
In all the back-and-forth, my last question apparently got lost. When using these install instructions, the kernel is updated. I think this is what changes the way the power button works. I want to restore the default behavior of the power button and everything else, and I would hope that I do not have to lose all my customizations in the process. What's the best approach to removing the screen rotate and restoring the original kernel? (If I should start a new thread, please let me know.)

hi.. i dont know why people dont appreaciate this post by gokuman56.. I used the search feature and i couldnt find an easier way for screen rotation than this. all the other methods are different and have to be done by opening xterm or something and entering in commands.. and since im a noob this was the best option.
I want to thank gokuman56 again for taking his time in writing this tutorial and keep helping ppl... |
Re: Easy Way to install screen rotation on nokia n810 anyone can do it

Re: Easy Way to install screen rotation on nokia n810 anyone can do it
This is because this is a bit outdated and the links don't work, but the manual way will work all the time (unless the server is down)
