VLC to NIT?

Does this mean that we may see a full, mobile VLC ported to Maemo as it's open source?

VLC has been ported to the NIT - with Hildon interface and all - but it does not reach anywhere near the performance of mplayer. :\

The portable here doesn't mean that it's for portable platforms, but that the program can be run from a portable media device, like a USB drive.

Hahaa, I'd rather not have VLC on my NIT. I would think it'd be too resource heavy. Output Streaming, Advanced Features that can't really be supported on our hardware, etc, etc. Besides that, it's fun to use VLC on my PC to stream video/audio to my NIT when I'm not home or can't be on my PC for extended periods of time! :D

Hey there, I've been able to set it up so that I can a window to the Maemo OS on my PC by using PuTTy - but...how do I stream FROM the PC TO the NIT? :)

I've tried setting up VNC viewer but could not get it to work :(

huh. that mplayer is not even capable of seeking flv videos
i installed vlc on my deblet and it was looking really good except the sound problem
and also i should admit that even coreplayer on nokia 6600 is better than mplayer
i mean there is no options in mplayer.maybe there is commands to set its options for professional users.
but its GUI is not enough :(

Re: VLC to NIT?

silvermountain, VNC is just for controlling the another PC. For video/audio steaming straight to the device using an HTTP/MMS protocol, it's quite easy.

On your PC:
  • Open VLC.
  • Click Media and choose Streaming... or Open Capture Device... for TV Tuners, Webcams and the such.

For Streaming..., choose a file, a DVD disc or even the capture device and it'll take you to a screen showing options to choose from. For audio streaming, best to use the default profile of MP3 since it's the best for streaming. For video, the best seems to be wither WMV, but you can pick and choose like I did. I got some good and some bad results.

Anyway, hope that helps. :)
