xchat and plugins and scripts
I've used XChat before on Ubuntu and I know it needs a Python and Perl plugin, but I don't know where to get there for Maemo, if they even exist. I don't really have any idea about this (I'm still trying to learn the foreign architechture of linux...), or if it's possible. I just want my potato ray script for xchat. Does anyone know how to do this if it's possible?

Re: xchat and plugins and scripts
Forget Perl. Maemo sucks WRT Perl and I had some nightmare linking errors when trying to build the Perl XChat plugin. Tried SBOX_REDIRECT_IGNORE to get Maemo's perl but to no avail.
That said, the version of XChat in extras-devel has the Python plugin as I could get that to build. And, "normal" XChat plugins will load regardless of XChat version ("version", in this case, referring to the one from Extras or extras-devel) as long as they're recompiled. |
Re: xchat and plugins and scripts
I'm looking for a chat program that could light up the D-Pad (customized script I guess) if I receive a new message.
Right now I'm using Pidgin, which is great because you can have it make sounds, but it would be nice if I could have something more visual and a little more discrete when receiving something new when I'm in places that require minimal distractions to others. Thanks ahead for any advice. |

Thanks dude!
Good to see that you're stilling rocking the scene! |
Re: xchat and plugins and scripts
doesn't the rtcomm beta (which includes telepathy-idle for irc) make the LED flash, too? - it has some annoying bugs and apparently nobody's working on it any longer, plus it isn't half as comfortable to use as xchat, but it does flash. ;)

I don't know how to recompile. I've only compiled like 3 times before on ubuntu. v.v

I'm getting an unable to download pidgin-n800-led-plugin.
Application not found. Anyone still holding on to this who would like to share? Thanks. |

@Mgamerz What does the code to this plugin even look like? I assume that it is not C, because you haven't compiled much. |
Re: xchat and plugins and scripts
Thanks Qwerty!
Darn me and my inability to Google something first before asking. :( It works great but can it also offer the same display when receiving a new email from a yahoo or hotmail account? I get a message in Pidgin stating something like 1 new email but I was wondering if there was a way to configure this to activate the LED light as well. I did Google first this time but came up empty. Thanks! |

I've hacked the plugin to notify you of new e-mails - and it works - but bear in mind that my C sucks and this is based on the little knowledge I gained after quickly reading the Pidgin API. The hacked plugin will popup a dialog when you have recieved a new e-mail and acknowledging the dialog, by closing it, will stop the LED from blinking. But, as such, you may find the the popping up of the dialog an annoyance. But I cannot think of anything better (my original "solution" was a timeout solution which meant you either had the seconds for the LED to blink at a very high number and saw the LED for a long time or very little and missed it most of the time). :) I've made sure that it does not popup the dialog again if it is already on your screen. Deb and diff to source attached. |

That is so awesome Qwerty!
It works great for me, but then again, I'm not quite as popular as you. 7,500 new emails for you? Dude! :D Anyway, thank you very much for this. It upgrades a regular yahoo account into something more premium without having to pay for it. Cheers buddy! |
