Re: An N800 Die-Hard

I am trying to use my StraightTalk.com phone (Samsung R451C) with my N800...to link with the internet. I can get the two to do the bluetooth "pairing"...but that is all. Nothing after that...any ideas?

Seems that said phone is missing the PAN and DUN profiles:

Either of those are needed for the N800 to use the phone for net connection.

Re: An N800 Die-Hard

My new battery life is abysmal (24-36 hours in standby), but I am also consistently dropping my internet connection during periods of inactivity. It made me wonder if my wifi is sapping the battery. I ran in offline mode and didn't notice any difference in battery life.

So then I wondered if my N800 might benefit from a reinstall. It's been so long since I installed Diablo that I doubt if I remember how to do it.

A question for the collective is "how often do YOU reinstall your OS on your N800"?

I have not done any re-flashing of the OS since installing the community OS version 5.2010.33-1. As far as my battery life, I use my N800 "off the charger" every night for 8 hours, then plug it in to charge over night. It stays on the charger throughout the day connected to WiFi.

I'm just now really getting into it lately.

Anyway, what's your setup for this?

There's so many different plug-ins and preferences, it has me all confused.

The only plug-in I've installed so far is Qwerty's LED Notification one.

Thanks!

@ addison - these days I seldom use pidgin because my company began blocking yahoo and google chat. Now I use Skype to chat and Google Voice to send free text to cell phones. Since I have used it alot, let me know if you have a specific problem in getting it to work.

Finally got my Gizmo account to work with my RTCOMM. transmitted sound is a choppy over 3G but it works. I may never use my cell phone when WIFI is available!

Now only if RTCOMM would work with Yahoo.

In other news I may go and get an 810 since I would appreciate a screen I can see in sunlight (for when I do my road trips).

Hey Den.

No troubles at all with Pidgin. It's just that there's so many plugins available and wanted to know if any of them are needed. :)

@Addison
Seriously that extra stereo plugin (included with XMMS) and voice removal plugin work pretty well.

For Pidgin I use:
* autoaccept
* buddy state notification
* history
* message notification
* n800 led plugin (BLINK on laptop)
* psychic mode
* purple-shout
* send button (should be built-in the maemo build)
* offline message emulation (not needed on new builds of pidgin)

and I occasionally play around with other ones.

on topic of pidgin, anyone had issues with incoming messages opening windows that do not show on the "taskbar"?
