In Portuguese the noun 'touch' is 'toque'. The same word is used for ringtones. When the phone is ringing we say it is 'tocando', 'touching'. Probably a leftover from bell telephones... --- If we want to say how much free and open the device is, what about Nokia Hacker, or Nokia Snoop? :p A funny word in Portuguese for a nosy person is 'xereta' (x like 'sh'). It even has the X someone said would make it look hip! :D |

CONFLEX, NEXUS or FLEX were also good proposals. From Eldar's review it is clear N900 is on par wit iPhone for the touch, so they can use the world "TOUCH" in Latin, Italian, Spanish or Finnish (a short and catchy word). TOUCH in Spanish: TACTO, AMAGO, NEXO TOUCH in Italian: TASTO, TOUCH in Finnish: OSUMA, TUNTO, TAPA A good option would be "CONTACT". Can I change the poll or can a moderator change the poll options adding these names? |

OSUMA means hit, like when a bullet hits(touches) something. TUNTO means physical feeling, like when you touch something. And the best one is TAPA, this means either a habit (bad habit = paha tapa) or kill (kill it = tapa se) :D Touch in Finnish is KOSKETUS. Touchscreen is KOSKETUSNÄYTTÖ. |

MobOS
Mob refers to Mobile And OS refers both Operation System And Open Source |

I'm cool with the numbers, especially since the tablets are in the N8xx or N9xx (presumably, anyway) range, no risk of confusing them with the Nxx phones currently available. N900-series is good enough. If a label is needed, though, put me down as a Communicator: Reloaded fan. |
Re: Nokia needs a name-brand for the maemo devices
While I'm honestly enjoying - laughing at bits - at the names... I don't think that a name is necessary.
Not unless Benson's "h4x0r" is used. That would definitely gather some looks when I do my gov't consultation. |
Re: Nokia needs a name-brand for the maemo devices
Isn't Tocco (Samsung's touch line) Italian for touch? Or Latin or something, I can't remember. So their lawyers might not be best pleased with Nokia copying. I think the M series of phones would be good, anyone for M900? Though I think M5 would be the best. And, as it's our favourite portable OS's first real time in the open, it could simply be called the 'Maemo'.
