that's mean no paying for software , if pay then why should i buy maemo when i can buy MIDs.

FALSE, that's not the meaning of opensource:

Open or Free software doesn't mean that they must cost $0

There is difference between read support Office and read/write support Office. Read support is a must for most folks.

What I want is not too many applications which do approx same thing, but reusing of libraries and such instead, and consistency.

I'd love good sync & management like iTunes/iCalendar, and a good deal for Nokia Maps.

Anyway, good VPN client supporting wide range protocols and remote desktop and command line tools is my #1 thing.

You should see it from the eyes of one who has used for years the s60 browser. Coming to microb or tear might be a shocking experience. You have a real browser, and you don't need any more those "widgets" that call themselves apps.

Maybe Iphone owners will see the light, too.

You mean S60Browser uses a minute to load a page? Or that it doesn't have build-in RSS feed reader? On an unrelated note Fennec 1.0b3 out ;)

N-Gage games would be a must.

There are over 100 games on download section of this site for OS2008, but how many of them are working in OS2009 or Maemo 5?

Personally, I do not want any of these programs.

I do not even want any proprietary software.

But I agree to pay for a Free and Open Source Software.
Or for a copy, or by donations.

Hopefully some useful extensions will come out/be ported over from firefox.

It is also true for HTML stored locally on the tablet. These pages can be coded to the tablets format or edited to retrieve only the required information with no ads or tracking cookies. :)

For me, this has been the biggest advantage the NIT's have over other devices...
I have been disappointed that more discussion, shared code, tricks, etc. are not posted on this forum. I mean HTML and its variants on NIT's truly are "code in your hands". Anyone with a desktop browser that can save pages as text files has the SDK and with a simple text editor can start making changes. :cool:

Nokia OSS web browser does take awhile to load a page, but not nearly as long as before. N97 and N86 browsers are alot faster than before. And they've always had a built in RSS reader, and I hope Maemo has one similar built into the browser. I'm beginning to use the one built into Vista/IE, and I think as long as Maemo has a similar experience, I'll be ok.

I'm not a big Firefox guy, but Fennec on a mobile should be exciting. Why didn't Nokia go with a Webkit browser for Maemo instead, though?

Reason to use Facebook's mobile site (m.facebook.com or i.facebook.com). Sites should be accessible and ready for mobile devices...

About widgets, gadgets, or whatever their are named (nice article about them), Nokia already has some experience on this, like Opera. And these apps doesn't need to be fulltime connected to a website, so they can extend internet/web experience in disconnected environments. So yes, I think some kind of standard runtime evironment should be included ;-)

If Ovi store will have commercial applications and "Maemo Select" will have selected applications, does it mean the selected applications will be:
* open source/ code available?
* free (free binary)
* free or paid, but a selection of the apps in ovi store for maemo?

will ovi store for Maemo host free apps as well or only paid commercial apps, and the free apps will be on maemo.org or on maemo select?

I would pay for maemo port of introversion games (defcon & uplink).
