Hi Peter, Thank You for all those updates.

For one thing which I really like and use a lot, I would like to know if there is a FM Radio (with RDS) in there. The Nokia Maemo page doesn't mention of it except for the FM Transmitter. However, gsmarena.com reports its existence.

If you are still around here, would you please clear this part. Thanks in advance,

Yes, the N900 has a FM receiver hardware inbuilt. Today, we do not ship FM-radio as a built-in application. However, we look forward to the community to build exciting mash-ups of FM radio and other media experiences on Nokia N900 with high local relevance.

Yes, having MMS on a feature phone is important, but the N900 isn't a feature phone with limited resources. . We prioritized our resources to have brilliant multitasking of the frequent use cases. You can share photos easily to the Internet or by email. Implementing MMS would have meant dragging the ancient WAP 1.2.1 standard used for the push notificatiom to a modern computer OS in times when our target audience wants to share high quality images to Flickr, Facebook, Picasa, Ovi and so on. MMS receipt would maybe gotten us far enough, so others can send her photo to you, but we decided to put our R&D into other areas. I hope consumers will forgive us for the time being.

Maemo 5 and the N900 look brilliant. But: don't forget the past and present! There are still many many many mobile phone users who are NOT into "online web 2.0", but who are simply very happy if you send them an MMS, because it is a very simply use case, has reasonable pricing and they will not need any kind of special data plan. In fact, for anybody I know without an iPhone, MMS is the one and only way to share a picture from his/her mobile phone. This includes coworkers, friends, parents and wife.

The N900 MUST include MMS. Especially when Nokia shoots at the iPhone in their marketing materials (like copy/paste, no jailbreaking needed, battery changeable). This would be just too inconsistent.

I voted against Bush once, would have been twice if I was 18 in 2000 (a year shy :-/).

I say "voted against Bush," because I only voted for Kerry (another idiot) cuz he was the only viable option.

I for one would appreciate you not painting all of us with the same broad brush. Many of us condemned torture, despise racists, thought the Iraq invasion was an ill-thought fiasco, never voted for Bush, and do our best to scout out good American journalism (which still exists but is admittedly too rare). And we are assuredly NOT enjoying the "ride" of that shameful legacy.

So if you're going to start slamming people for bias, try removing your own first and engage a little selectivity. Extremism and hypocrisy aren't virtues, either. Thanks.

I know, you're right - I already apologised and happily do so again. Sorry.

According to someone in the know, the main reason why MMS isn't in there is because of the way MMS works conflicts with the way the Linux kernel works in terms of handling connections. I was told however that a very recent addition to the official kernel would make it possible to add in the future.

and sorry to you too - and anybody else who was offended.

I crossed the line and should have just stuck with the CNET/Engadget/US media lack of objective coverage of the N900 and seeming bias towards all things iPhone.

Hey I love you guys - the US has contributed a ton of great stuff to the world. OK no more hate mail please!

That's a very interesting information. I would have thought MMS support would be userspace only... Although I have to admit this is based only on the fact that it seems to be such a trivial thing from a user's point of view.

I'd appreciate a link if you find any more details on this. Not that I could do anything, I'm just a very curious person. ;)

- No software to listen to FM radio.
- No vertical display of the OS (except for Phone software and some third party software)
- No MMS.

Have you had enough time / developer for Maemo 5? :D

If you need help, you should ask. :D

PS: Well, MMS and FM reception I do not use, only the vertical mode too often it's a problem for me.

There's still other things that are forgotten? :D
