Seeing this sort of hand-on interaction with a device would be very exciting. Tim |

From my personal perspective, I think that sharing has to go beyond the platform. I shouldn't need to have a specific device or to be subscribed to a specific service in order to share my media and to see media shared by others. And off course, I shouldn't need to use a different service for the type of media I want to share (Flicker for pictures, ?? for my audio, blogspot for my writing, etc). When I was thinking on a system for media sharing, the first one I thought was a kind of Sharepoint on steroids. However, since we want it to be very widely available, it should be web based. It should allow me to share any type of media, and to have the option to share it openly, without requiring subscription to a service. If I want to share a picture with a friend and he doesn't have an account, I should be able to send him a password protected link and that's it. And its default rules should be defined to protect my privacy, don't people get tired of getting their life exposed by a simple Google search? Maybe Ovi can become something like that...? |

Or you would, if SMIL support wasn't:

Side note: I clearly haven't been keeping up with SMIL development. SMIL does have transitions and has had them for some time. |

Re: Second discussion topic for co-creation project: CREATIVE MEDIA EDITING & SHARING
I was focusing on personal use at first but obviously business and academia uses make sense too, especially in our milieu. My summit presentation is being created in Microsoft Powerpoint but using that to present the slidshow at an open source conference violates the spirit. I don't expect Microsoft to provide such a tool, but here's where a third party translator would be handy that could refactor the PPT into an XML-based format for sharing/presenting to non or anti-Microsoft audiences. ;)

Re: Lightweight (non-presentation laden) slideshow format
Surely a format like this will be useful to share just a small stack of photos over email, or to load up on the gajillions of slide show devices out there (yes, i'm talking about those deskbound ones and those 'smartphones' in everyone's pocket).. |
