Yes, that's a great idea especially because it wasn't an "action oriented" game, rather it was lots of God-like management with clicks, it would be perfect for the touchscreen, and the graphics were always a joy to watch!

Why don't you add it into the "PC game ports" thread here?

Yeah cheers, just posted in that thread :)

Is there any chance someone would be able to port this game? I used to love playing it as a kid.

As far as it's closed source, nobody will be able to port this game.. You should ask EA. (anyway, maybe you can play it with dosbox, dunno; seems to have very low requirements and to run on dos)

For anybody asking every kind of game to be ported, things are quite simple:
a) the source code is available: you have some chance to port it (if it doesn't require too high specs; if there aren't technical difficulties; if somebody wants to work on it)
b) the source code is unavailable:
-- b1) the publisher of the software ports it (and usually sells it -> $)
-- b2) you emulate the platform for which the software was made (dosbox/psx emu/gba emu/other console/...)
-- b3) somebody creates an other version of one or more components of the software, which won't be like the original, but strive to be as similar as possible (ex. stratagus/other reverse-engeneered software/opensource alternative/closed source alternative for your platform)

(I hope I didn't make any mistakes)

I don't believe the unreal engine was ever open sourced, which is why Quake/Quake3 are available.

technically it shouldnt be a problem, but yeah, as wmarone said, the unreal-engine was never made open-source, so skip the idea for now... :D

Recently saw this: http://www.introversion.co.uk/uplink...velopercd.html

Im assuming the fact they are charging a license fee is the deal breaker here? :(

Wouldnt Uplink work great on the phone otherwise? I remember running it on quite the trash setups in the past.

The fundamentals are simple. If you change uplink and produce a "patch" for a platform that we have sold on, then feel free to distribute it. If you produce a totally new version, contact us and we'll try to work something out.
I guess it depends on the person considering the port if they see paying £30 from their pocket as a deal breaker... Whether Introversion would consider Maemo just "Linux" or a separate platform would determine whether you could just throw it out there or need to work something out with them as they write. I'm thinking it's likely they would think it is a new platform... Maybe they'd even like to sell it or maybe it could be released without datafiles as nonfree in the repos.
