Re: Motorola CLIQ
Maybe I missed a subtle ":D" between the lines... language barrier. Well then it's just a general rant about Appleisms in this forum, not directed at you. ;)

Apple sold over 30 millions of iPhones. Nokia sold 10 millions of s60v5 (touch enabled) devices, 5800+N97, but 5800 is only $250 compared to iPhone 3GS unlocked price of $690 >> Market share? On the same smartphone segment, Apple share has grown in the last 2 years from 2 to 13%, and Nokia market share has decreased some procents... >> Feastures?? With more features compared to 5800 and N97 at RAM and processor power and 3D graphics accelerator, but with less features in other terms like resolution, still, iPhone 3GS sells better than 5800+N97 monthly based. I am not an Apple fanboy, I don't own an iPhone but a N series device, still, this is the crude reality. :P |

what's the point? selling an average of 800.000 to 900.000 units per month (depending on which you take as a base, your figures or mine) isn't all that exciting. also, more than 50% of the iphones sold so far were sold in north america. of course this still counts for the global sales, but it shows that the iphone is a very local phenomenon. given there's no clear definition of smartphone, i rather see the true market share: 1.5%. too little to stand out in any pie chart. Quote:
when i said "features" i was primarily thinking about things you can/can't do software-wise. starting with little things like copypaste that was introduced only recently (and before that, there was no way i'd call the iphone a smart phone) to real dealbreakers like crippled bluetooth. so what we have in the end is a platform that holds 1.5% of the global market after 3 models, is sold almost only in the US and lacks basic functionality that others don't even mention in their spec sheets any more. - i wouldn't call this a target. |
Re: Motorola CLIQ
BTW, have you guys noticed how much media coverage the North American phone companies (Motohorrible, Plam, Alppes, Crackberry) get when their device are launched? It is just disproportionate compared to rest of the worlds.
Lets say Samsung, HTC, Nokia or Sony Ericsson launch a device they dont get HALF or media space as those other companies do. I am not even talking about the Alppes PR subsidiary, Engadget, but even if you compare other more serious news places. I just think Yankees are desperate to regain first place at all costs even with this denial that other firms can/might do better than their firms. Or am I paranoid? Am I?! AM I?!?!?!? |

have i ever called you that? sorry. i spent a few unforgettable months "over there" (back in the days when you could simply visit your country... before the new iron curtain), and i met a lot of incredibly nice, charming, intelligent, unbelievably attractive, friendly people there. and i'm well aware that my hero and saviour, RMS, is american. ;) so i really try not to say it. :D |

Re: Motorola CLIQ
@HangLoose
You are right with the coverage of US devices versus rest of the world devices, and I'm not talking about a blogger opinion here, but about big US media names like CNN: they publish every little thing about Apple iPhone, even rumors !!!!! (weird for a so-called biggest news company) but they did not write anything about XM5800, N97 or N900 launch... That is not news company, is just a biased news company... Quote:
