At the very least I expect a shipping email from MPD, what would be sweet is if the postman woke me up with a very special delivery and MPD had been too busy posting n900's to have emailed me yesterday

The charge your account is a separate part of the process but I'm going to stop there.

Because it's clear people will want me to be wrong and dispute my information just to semi comfort themselves in what seems like a never ending wait for the N900

But I promise you this. That wait will be extended for a healthy portion of those who ordered through mpd.

BUt iasked MPD and they said that my credit check has been approved.... on phone and chat as well after i quote my order no.

Well its the first any have heard that - Ive had multiple differing contracts - each credit check taking 5-10 mins.

yeah me too. However all were done with phones that were in stock. If you really believe they have then disregard my experience/advice.

However lets say they do each credit check on the day!

and the credit check itself takes 5-10 minutes as you say!

And going off mpd's quota of 500 tmobile/voda contracts

You see the logistical math formulating?

You're looking at 25-50 hours on credit checks alone. forget everything else involved with the shipping process...

& Royal mail close at what time?

Anyways you can will me wrong as much as you please but come D day. A lot of you guys will be refreshing maemo.org pissed or perhaps in tears.

While others will be enjoying that linux based goodness

25 hours for a credit check? Yet networks can do them instantly? I works for currys and even we do credit checks for all networks other than o2 and 99% give a result 30 seconds after checking

For heavens sake. You think a company like Nokia/MPD have to do a credit check one-by-one. You dont think theres an automated system that checks people concurrently.

Im really not sure what to do. I would like to wait until the N900 hits the shops then I can have a look around and find the best offer. But i dont want to miss out on the first load of units shipped to pre-orders cus then shops might not get anymore stock for a while.

Is MPD the only place I can pre-order a contract N900? Also if I was to pre-order it on contract how would it work? I assume the contract would not start until they ship the phone to me? Does that mean I can cancel my contract pr-order before that date? I dont wanna get locked into a MPD deal if I end up having to wait weeks and a better deal comes up.

I just spoke to a guy at nokia direct sales and he seemed adamant that it will be shipping to pre-orders by the end of the week. I wonder if that also means MPD pre-orders?

Have many people pre-ordered theres through MPD? It looks like MPD is the only option if I want it on contract.

Another thing that is really buggin me. Many of the N900 deals on vodafone come with 'unlimited' internet. After reading their 'fair usage' policy i find out this is VERY far from the truth. I totally understand why fair usage has to be put in place and i do agree with it but vodafone seem to think that 500MB is fair! WTF? 500MB! ...ill use that up in a couple of days! Officially the worst 'unlimited' deal I have ever seen!

I really doubt you will use that in a couple of days, unless you are downloading ridiculous amounts of media or the like, which is not what mobile internet is really for. Everything really has a 'fair usage', always, even if it does say 500mb. And they don't charge you if you go over, they contact you etc. unlike other networks.

And it is one of the best 'unlimited' deals - other networks can be as low as 200mb.

If you were on O2 and in Central London then you'd be impressed to manage 500MB in a month - the iPhone saturation around here has killed any chance of sensible download speed regadless of the hardware you have!

You're telling me - today tried to navigate to buy something on ebay - took soooo long, ridiculous speeds. Can't wait to get off o2, not which are better though Vodafone or T-Mobile.

I am using T-Mobile for quite a while now, obviously it's not perfect and they have occasional hiccups or coverage gaps (which may well be because of E71 having poor radio sensitivity), but overall I am quite happy with them. I was actually contemplating moving to Vodafone with N900, just to try them out, but I decided to stick with T-M. Firstly, because I've popped Vodafone's pay as you go SIM card for few days and used it on daily basis and haven't really spotted much difference. Secondly, a friend of mine also buying N900 on contract is coming back to T-Mobile from Vodafone, as he was happier with T-M. Other fact is that my wife's number is on T-Mobile contract too and we do use a lot of Family service, so it wouldn't make sense to split numbers by networks in this case. :)

However, I really hate the idea of T-Mobile merger with Orange, so I seriously think to leave them once the next contract expires..

I've been wondering which is the better of the two. Have been with 3 for ages and signed with T-Mobile for the N900. Am still not 100% sure if that was the best decision

See - i'd love to get it on T-Mobile, I too have been with them and really much prefered their service, minus a few black spots in central London. But MDP and the Vodafone-a-rama business... I still don't know what to do..! I think after tonight, if no mention of contract and I (highly doubtful anyway) don't win the phone, I'll get it on MPD on Vodafone. Only choice left!

Depends whether you prefer to get N900 asap, or wait a bit for a better deal. If the latter, I'd wait until N900 gets in stock in NFS ("we are just expeting delivery, it could be anytime now", as I was told over the phone less than an hour ago), then go there and ask if you could get it with T-M. I have a feeling they might offer that in-store, but not sure either. Time will tell. :)

Yeah, but thing is, don't know if I can bear the wait! Plus, according to a few, the deals at NFS aren't exactly the same as MDP. And I don't want to be stuck on a 24mnth contract.

I'm going to try them though. I'll try and ask tonight as well if I get the chance.

Consider another option - take the best deal you can possibly get right now with other phone (ie. N97/N97Mini), stick it on eBay straight away, and buy SIM-free N900 instead.

Yes i phoned the NFS and they would only offer me a 24month contract. Phone MPD and they said that some offers were not available in store (in this case the 18month deal)

Me too. After my daughter and I were treated really badly by Orange, we started moving the whole family to T-Mobile (as our PAYG credit ran out). Now our move is being redered pointless by the merger.

When my N900 arrives I'm going to try a Virgin PAYG SIM card. Virgin uses T-mobile's network, so I'm assuming performance will be identical to using a T-mobile SIM card. Virgin's PAYG charges are lower (30p per day for 25MB, or £5 per month for 1GB) although unlike T-mobile they do have a charge for usage above those levels.

Yeah... I'd much prefer a Sim only one anyway, for when the sucessor comes along. I've just looked, ebay prices online are around 400. Best contract is around 600. :(

To be honest, I am quite surprised that T-Mobile was in trouble, as I can see them gradually improving over time (services, tariffs, website etc.). But well, business is business I guess. I just regret that wasn't Vodafone instead of Orange. Anyway, who knows - maybe it would actually get better after the merger? Will see.

i read earlier too and it did not say which operator, but all other networks denied it was anything to do with them therefore forcing T-mobile to come out and admit it was them

Hmm ordered through Nokia pre-order using tramp delivery option..don't think i'll get it until Monday if they ship out on Thursday.

Hopefully, if they ship today (wednesday), I might get it on Friday or Sat morning
