Eldar sounds like that dude at every party that spends all his time one upping people.

"Sure Everest is tough , but when I was climbing K2 we had to eat our Sherpa"

"Sure lung cancer is tough , but you want to have real cancer, get cancer of the scrotum"

As a mobile phone junkie I am very used to getting the first look proto overview/review from mobile-review.ru and to be honest there are very few complaints from most people about Eldar and his site except that maybe he is biased towards Nokia.

I think its safe to say that many mobile bloggers/internet journalists etc would kill to have access to the devices they get over at mobile review and if the trade off was not divulging where they get the devices from then so be it.

i don't get it either. I could care less where the device from, for all I know Nokia has only given Proto-types to its most fierce fanboys to guarantee awesome early reviews.

I'll read Eldar's opinions along with others and take into account their prior reviews of older devices and make my own opinion.

At this point *any* information about the N900 is appreciative

Actually to quote your idol "Nokia are not giving any n900s for review"

What they did do is give people n900's for QA under NDA's making reviews impossible.

Try again.

1) After you asked 85718597510 times nice (what version of sw/hw) and explained why you want to know 85718597510 times you become frustrated. We want to know these details because they matter! They matter because it helps one to put information in perspective. Right now it is extremely difficult to know how valuable the information is.

2) I wouldn't miss previewers who steal prototype hardware/software. I don't care if they review a new game, a space shuttle, or wireless skippy balls. They are egomaniacs who want attention or worse earn money in an unethical way while potentially hurting the hard work of the corporation who made the product because the corporation must adapt their marketing and PR to such, need to debunk BS and nonsense, must investigate where leak is and how to bust perpetrator, and so on and so on.

3) I actually happen to own copies (vinyl, DAT, CD, WAV, MP3) of a lot of music of certain genres which fans of these genres and artists would die^H^H^Hlove to have, but because I don't have permission to share these works, I do not share them. It is an ethical decision. Sometimes a difficult ethic to follow, btw, and I fully admit I made mistakes in past. Ironically, some of that music is eventually officially released. Sometimes many, many years later.

4) There is a difference between having early access legal (not the case here), having consent to write preview (not the case here), and being honest and clear about the version being previewed (not the case here).

5) That fans like previews and insider information and rumors doesn't surprise me the least, nor does it surprise me these very fans never wonder where this information came from, who got murdered or committed suicide because of such leak, what the effects are to the corporation. They too, are selfish and ignorant, and if they don't wonder what kind of software or hardware version a previewer uses that only underlines their ignorance.

@textrat and @jandmdickerson: I said near-wisdom, there's more that I want to say, but reading this thread gets wearing to my eyes after a week of Share Point. I'll come back (if timing and subject allows) to speak more clearly.

Michal Jerz of my-symbian.com will have his review up in a few days. I guess he *stole* his unit too huh?

In his preview Eldar does not provide details invaluable for one to form an informed opinion. Its like a chocolate cake without the chocolate. It is like judging a book by its cover. There is a piece of the puzzle missing. Its like SUN without network. What a tease(r). Plus, Eldar is not a developer, I'd like to know why he is interested in (p)reviewing mobile devices.

Preview or review? We don't know whether he obtained the device legally. We don't know whether he has permission to write and share a preview. We don't know whether he will state what soft- and hardware he uses.

Whereas we know Eldar did not obtain his device legally, we know he didn't have permission to write and share the preview, and we know his secrecy about soft- and hardware version.

Nope - but he is a known QA tester and we know exactly where his device came from and he will more than likely provide a firmware number. He has also stated he was on NDA so he must now be free to review it.

On another note that really hints at a very close release date.

Because network traffic will be your storage. If you don't understand that, you miss a key point in Nokia's development of the tablets beyond the 770.
