I think its safe to say that many mobile bloggers/internet journalists etc would kill to have access to the devices they get over at mobile review and if the trade off was not divulging where they get the devices from then so be it.

I don't care how people get the product. If X company gave it to them, it fell off a truck, they knew an insider that gave them one, they stole it from a factory when dressed up as a ninja. And if they want to review the hardware, software, newest whatever product. Great! I would love to hear about the product in question.

But given that there's no way to tell what firmware or what hardware model it is (e.g. prototype? final product? etc..). You should inform people when you tell everybody about it that you may not have the latest firmware or hardware then what's actually being tested right now.

This is why I love the internet. I have no problems with disagreeing but does it really have to come with all the name calling "egomaniac", "attention whore" etc. You don't even know the person on the other side of the wire yet posters feel like making personal judgements of that person.

If you notice some of my past posts, even in this thread, I am not a huge fan of how Eldar handled this situation but I would never stoop to the ridiculous name calling that other posters feel like engaging in.

4) There is a difference between having early access legal (not the case here), having consent to write preview (not the case here), and being honest and clear about the version being previewed (not the case here).

5) That fans like previews and insider information and rumors doesn't surprise me the least, nor does it surprise me these very fans never wonder where this information came from, who got murdered or committed suicide because of such leak, what the effects are to the corporation. They too, are selfish and ignorant, and if they don't wonder what kind of software or hardware version a previewer uses that only underlines their ignorance.

He said he doesn't have the final firmware, but that he's sure that in final firmware there will be still some bugs.

You guys are so funny and really boring when you constatly ask about how he got the device. He got it somehow. It's the least important thing how he got it. You are so missing the point by denying his opinions based on his experience (of 5 months) with that device because you don't know how he got it.
That's like denying a murder with strong proofs (gun, motive..) because you don't know how the murder got his gun.

So to sum up...

His first review was just that, a first revue. He did not report the crashes as he knew it was not final build... I can go along with that.

His first review is the only review of this device by someone who is using the device and is not bound by an NDA... I believe this is also true.

His reports provided plenty of screen shots and specs that were eventually verified by Nokia. His first review also provided many of us with our first look at this device.

He either outright stated that in his opinion Maemo's approach was better than anything currently out there or we read (translated) that into his revue.

In any event after using the device for some time he believes that it will sell well to it's targeted market but it will not be embraced by the mass market. In other words it does raise expectations of what a mobile phone can do (read mobile computer) but the mass market is not ready for a mobile computer. He also believes that the targeted market is actually much larger than what Nokia expects and the device will meet or exceed Nokia sales expectations.

He also stated that Nokia needed to lay the groundwork for when the mass market will be ready for a mobile computing device and from what he has seen of its competitors (read Samsung) in his opinion, Maemo ain't going to cut it unless it steps up to the plate NOW for the mass market 2011 and beyond.

If my recap is accurate he really isn't saying anything about the N900 that we were not really already expecting ... before his revue that is.

Prior to Eldar's report we had the FCC report and a bunch of disgruntled members moaning about it being to small, an unneeded phone, no d-pad, only a 3 row keyboard, no color FAX, not capable of a pre-emptive missile strike... you name it.

After his review we all started to believe the N900 might just be an iPhone killer. No more bizatchin' and moaning. Everything was coming up roses. Some of us may have already envisioned "can your phone do that" competitions with that smart *****ed neighbor or brother -in-law.

Now that we are hearing a more down to earth report based on daily usage we want to kill the messenger.

...yeeeeesh.

Maybe it wasn't Eldars opinion that changed so much as it was our expectations...

i dont know the man or read any of his review but there is something to say about brand loyalty.

people likes the reviewer it when their brand review are good and hates/disagree with them when their brand has a bad review.
