maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
I need help with entering adresses on maemo mapper, i am looking up 307 north decatur lane, 30033, but it always says address not found. No adresses work with maemo mapper, any address I try does not work, so can someone help me?
Thanks |
Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can "look up" an address in maemo mapper. Just what are the steps you are taking to "look up" the address? You can make a route, which includes addresses, provided you are online, but I don't think you can "look up" an address, like could you could with Google Maps in a browser. So, what is it you are doing?

Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
I press the menu button, view, then go to, then it shows address, and i type it in, it used to work before, but now there is a problem, how can i fix this?

Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
Well, I'm glad I started my post with "I may be wrong ... " Thanks for showing me something new! It works for me, but I have intentionally avoided upgrading from 2.5.3. (In fact, I reverted to it on purpose.)
Do you have the maps already downloaded that would contain the area for the address you're looking for? Same problem for other addresses? |

Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
Just tried and it didn't work for me too.
It worked though when I've put both as origin and destination: "307 N Decatur Ln, Decatur, GA 30033" in menu>route>download. Does this qualify as a workaround? :) |
Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
I like that, but is there any other way I can find the address,
Thanks |
Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
Well, I used
20 Mountain Road, 06798 but I have that area (includes Woodbury, CT) down to Zoom level 6 |
Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
It's not working for me, Thank You everyone for trying, Thank You Very Much
|
Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
It works for me. Perhaps the fact that the map for that area was already downloaded is what made it work.

Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_id=29 has all versions. I'd try some other addresses 1st in case the map DB doesn't have your street or has spelled it differently.

Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
I have another thought.
For me, finding an address works only if I'm connected online. Otherwise it says something about not being able to find the GPX server. Are you connected? |
Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
I've just verified that finding by address requires connection to the GPX server even though I had the map loaded and had searched for and found the same address when I was connected to the Internet. GeraldKo is correct.

Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
This has always been the case with maemo mapper, it only downloads the map files and then uses the internet as address and POI lookup (POI at least downloads to a file)

Edit: Yes, as Gerald and others have said, it needs an active connection. |
Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
Just a suggestion, but the map repository may make a difference as well. What repositories re you guys using that had it work.
As for me I use the Open Street map repos. That way if there is an error, I can go fix it. |
Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
I may be mistaken, but from what I understand it's not linked to which repository you use.
Maemo Mapper queries a web service that looks up the gps coordinates. It should send you to the same GPS coordinates regardless of which repository you're using. |

Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
If you try to compact (from inside the maemo mapper) the DB 'normally' it will tell if the DB file is corrupted. If you want to try it just go to menu, Maps, Manage Repositories.. , and press the button Compact...
But the proposal from Den should be a good quick try if your DB is the culprit. If you downloaded a lot you can just rename it (instead of deleting it) and later restore it. |

Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
I am having trouble downloading and opening a route. When I go to route-download, it freezes and I have to close it. How do I make a route on the tablet then open it from route-open? I am connected to the internet
|
Re: maemo mapper address input! Need Help!
To download a route you must have an open connection to the Internet. There's another option when you're running your desktop or laptop -- http://www.gnuite.com/cgi-bin/gpx.cgi. This URL will create a .gpx file (route) that you can download to your tablet and open.

Damn. I think, between the last two posts, this finally makes Maemo Mapper a practical and useful application for me. Up to this point, I could never find a good purpose for this app. Now all it needs is a 3D view with those directions.
