Go there now, show them the letter, and tell them you are not leaving until you have a N900 in hand.

I HOPE that they are going to be shipping the devices soon, and I know many of you would much rather have the device now to just play around than wait any longer... But looking at this from a neutral perspective, I doubt that is going to happen.

If you follow closely on all the youtube uploads up to now, many of the videos actually show a lot of flaws still in the n900. I can't remember specifically what, but there seem to be a number of bugs. Now, unless these are already fixed, they still have some way to go till the release (because they probably have to plug the bugs and stuff that don't work, and re evaluate from there)..

On the other hand, I just received a letter from my operator that I bought the phone from, telling me that it's ready to be picked up in coming days.. Don't know what coming days mean, nor do I know if this was sent to everyone that ordered a n900, the letter was not dated =/

Also, I have spoken to some Nokia reps and I know for a fact that Finland is going to be one of the first countries that are getting the n900 (I don't know what "one of the first" means in detail). Also, I have been told by Nokia that phones are shipped out in the order that they were made.

Also, it seems a bit weird for Nokia to give out 300x N900's to developers and then the next week start shipping the phones; it hardly gives the developers time to test out their software and have a large enough repository to pull in some of the non-techsavvy audience. Remember that we are the geeks that follow what's going on with N900 every single day, of course you wouldn't mind having this phone now. But think about the marketing power that this phone could have, if/when they advertise it to have hundreds of programs ready.

My guess would be; the last week of the month earliest... Let the waiting begin =(

Meanwhile; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHSZfhY25Jc Quake III Arena on Nokia N900 for those who haven't seen it yet...

nobody have the Official latest one the 300 that was sent out was pre-production models and everyone still love the phone. Grant it, the phone will have simple bugs but i doubt to the extent of your phone blowing up.

Zane,

Amazon already has all the N900's on hand in their Phoenix warehouses. They can't ship until the release date which hasn't been set yet but we are all expecting to be like sometime in the next 7-10 days. A "Nokia" rep will tell you that so you place your order with them instead of anyone else.

from buy.com's help page:

Most orders go through these 4 phases: Processing - - Sent to Warehouse - - In the Shipping Process - - Shipped. Once you order, we carefully check to make sure you're the person using your credit card or gift certificate.

While we're doing this, or if we're waiting for you to send in other forms of payment, your order is Processing. You can cancel your order within the first 15 minutes of processing.

Once we have verified your payment, your order is Sent to Warehouse to be fulfilled.

An item that is In the Shipping Process cannot be cancelled because it is being picked from the shelves, packaged, and stacked on the loading dock.

If your item is in stock, your order will be Shipped within 1 to 2 business days.

my order is not even 2 hours old yet: 13Oct.2009 @ 11:10 AM (EST or -5GMT)

Here's my conversation with a Nokia Rep:

Lester: Hello, welcome to Nokia. I am a Nokia Sales Representative, may I assist you finding a device today?
You: Hello, Lester. I'm just checking in to see the status of my N900 preorder. Has there been any updates on the release date?
Lester: It will be available at the end of the month.
You: Ok...thank you

My guess is that Nokia has prioritized U.S. shipping for some "particular" reason.

just got off the phone with buy.com and 1 csr said that the authorization/verification has completed successfully and that my item should be shipping out soon and then she transfered me to another csr who said that they did not have a release date for the order from the manufacturer. they are going to contact the manufacturer and contact me back within the next 24 hrs. with a ship date.

I think it used to day Pre-ordered or something to that extent. I'm not tryint to tease. Trust me.. I'm sitting on pins here checking the web every hour hoping that some miracle will happen and I will get it sooner than later but at the same time I'm not getting excited. I hate when someone posts "my CC was charged" comments. I personally think this thread should be deleted as it's pointless. I am pretty sure though that the status was updated from "Pre order".

Yeah, Buy.com is like that. That's why I stayed with Amazon, I like to only pay for things once they actually have them in stock.

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

I do not believe Amazon, Buy.com etc, has N900's sitting in a warehouse. That would mean they shipped to Amazon or anyone else in the US one to two weeks ago.

Nokia has said the device is still being worked on. Unless Amazon has "beta" phones, I doubt Amazon is sitting on units in Phoenix.

They can keep that phone :)

I know somebody around here has to work for the NSA. Can't we just re-purpose a Satellite?

Here is my chat with a Nokia sales guy

Chat InformationThank you for choosing NokiaUSA. A sales representative will be with you shortly.

Chat InformationYou are now chatting with Paul.

You: Hi

Paul: Hello, welcome to Nokia. I am a Nokia Sales Representative, may I assist you finding a device today?

You: Do you know when the N900 will be available?

Paul: I would be happy to assist you with that. May I ask who I am chatting with today?

You: My name is Bruce

Paul: Hi Bruce the n900 will ship in the last week on October

Paul: Are you looking to order one?

You: I have a preorder, but at that time I was told it would be the last week of September

You: I am starting to wonder about the phone

You: I hope it lives up to the hype

Paul: Nokia pushed the date to end October

You: Is there a specific date or just the last week?

Paul: Last week is what it says on the web site

You: I have not seen that website

You: is it available to the public or an internal website?

Paul: Click here to view it

You: I also have a concern about the price

You: Buy.com is selling for $559.99

You: with $4.99 shipping

You: through Nokia I am playing $722.52

You: that is quite a difference

Paul: It is

You: Is there any reason I should buy through Nokia?

Paul: It is up to you where ever you wish to buy it from, but if anything goes wrong with the phone you will have to take it to BUY.com and that will really take a long time

You: Do buy.com phones not have a Nokia warranty?

Paul: I don't know

Paul: Is there anything else?

You: Does Nokia have any advice on using or not using a screen protector

You: My E90 scratches very easily without a screen protector

Paul: The phone comes with a hardened glass front which does not get scartches unless to take a drilling machine on it

You: Thank you, that is all of my questions

I guess that Michael Jerz from Symbian had drilling machines of a finger to get scratches so easily on his N900.

Zerojay, the only stupid thing you can do is put a drilling machine in your pocket. :)

My God, drlling machines to get scratches ??? This guy should be in Marketing instead of being a phone rep.

Well, he's got me convinced. I'm carrying all my drilling machines in my briefcase from here on out. I must admit it was Cavalier of me to think I could continue on with them in my pocket!

The sad thing is, someone stupid person once they get a scratch on their N900 just doing daily stuff will sue Nokia based on the fact that 'it will take a drilling machine to scratch the N900' statement from the rep. It doesn't matter if it's a janitor working for Nokia, the fact is ( at least here in the US ) if it's a person working for Nokia and they give a statement on a particular product, and that statement turns out to be false, some schmuck will probably sue Nokia. Not to mention the rep made that statement directly through Nokia, which makes it even more litigious if proved false.

Sometimes when you think about our legal system here, you truly wonder how ****ed up we can become.

unkno 2009-10-14 02:40

Re: Did Your N900 Ship Today?

Hardened glass? Will that really matter since the N900 has a resistive screen so there will have to be the resistive layer coated on top of the glass screen. As far as I know, a scratch-resistant layer is then placed to cover the whole screen. This means that it depends on how good that scratch-resistant layer is and not the glass itself.
